Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN

Post by Lavabe » August 3rd, 2010, 12:24 pm

Well, at least that's what ESPN says he's doing.

I sort of feel like this might be the real one. He turns 41 during the season.

The AP is also reporting he's retiring.

Agreed. As Fred Sanford would say, "Looks like this is the BIG one!" Or in this case, "the REAL one."

I must admit, I am surprised though. And a little dissapointed.

I'm trying to make myself care about Favre's latest retirement, but I don't think I'm over my last case of Favre fatigue.

As for the Vikings...OUCH! b-( Now their hopes rest on Travaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

Yep. Vikings just went from a Superbowl contender to a pretty good, somewhat above average team.

Dang.

I agree with Ozzie. We've heard this before. I feel like he'll retire until training camp is over, then unretire.

Well, at least he's bumped Albert Haynesworth off the ESPN crawl.

1. Have ambigous meetings with team owners/GM/Head Coach
2. Allow rumors of injury/poor health to spread (rumors must include age reference)
3. Await inevitable rumors or retirement
4. Wait for major news services to pick up retirement rumor
5. Wait a few days more
6. Hold weepy sniveling press conference with family at side announcing retirment
7. Allow preseason to begin
8. Allow rumors of your working out to leak to media
8.5 Be seen winging passes in a USM T-shirt somewhere near Hattiesburg [edit]
9. Be seen 'sneaking' in or out of training facility
10. Hold weepy sniveling press conference with family at side announcing UNretirment
11. Play most or all of season
12. Hold weepy sniveling press conference with family at side bemoaning the difficult decision you will make
regarding retirement in the off season
13. Repeat

I'm glad I didn't take Sidney Rice in the 3R of the fantasy draft I'm in.

Related question: What does Favre's retirement mean for Peterson from a FFL perspective? Does it make him more valuable because he'll have to shoulder more of the offensive load, or does it decrease his value because defenses will put 8 in the box to stop the run?

On balance, I'm leaning toward increased productivity.

It's a lot easier to predict the impact on the Vikings' wideouts.

This is all good, but you left out "be seen winging passes in a USM t-shirt somewhere in Hattiesburg."
