Indeed. I was lucky enough to toast one of the bartenders with one of the last pints of Guinness poured. From there, we worked on the Speckled Hen until it ran dry. By 8:00 we were ordering random drinks of whatever was left on the shelf; lots of single malt. At the end of the night, we were drinking wine from plastic cups as they quit washing dishes and started giving away the glassware. Kelly and I got two Guinness Pints. I'm going to get them etched on the bottom so every time I get to the bottom of the pint I'll remember Sir Eds.

Nice article.

I wonder why the owner didn't try to sell it. His problems must be a lot bigger than what he'd let on.

My guess is that he got behind in payroll and sales tax payments to the IRS and the state. This is one of the most common reasons for a small business to go out of business. The penalties and interest on unpaid taxes add up quickly.

You nailed it. As Albert Einstein said: "The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest".

I'm glad it went out the way it did, and that there was no option to sell. I can't imagine an owner other than Tobin.

Add DBR to the list. I don't even think I'll be lurking anymore. Bummer.

Guess we can add DBR to the list. It was a fun ride while it lasted.
