You should feel good that you've crossed every T and dotted every I. It must mean the world to your dad and make him so proud that you are the loving son you are and that your family is so close.
Now the healing can begin and before long the hurt will subside and wonderful memories will remain.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers, everyone.

Unfortunately, that's not quite the case, it's not quite over. Next month, we have to take her remains to California and bury them in the family plot. I fear that the bandaid will get ripped off one more time then. I'm kind of dreading that. Hopefully, after that, we'll be able to begin to move on. Not looking forward to that at all, though. :((

Helping your dad through this is probably the hardest part. I'm sure his hurt is palpable to you. But, you are doing all you can and can take comfort in knowing that. You'll have nothing to look back on and regret later. That's very important because regrets could stand in the way of all those marvelous memories you will enjoy in due time.

Still sending vibes.

Well, I'm leaving this morning for California. I'll be there with my aunt and Dad to finally bury Mom. Wish me luck.

I have no doubt that your family members will all help one another make the best of it all. Lots of love swarming around there! Be safe, be strong, be happy, be at peace. We'll all be here when you get back.

Now that I'm here, it's doubly hard. My dad and my aunt can't afford to keep the house now that Mom's gone. So, I'm here not only to say a final goodbye to my mom, but to say a final goodbye to the home I grew up in. It was always home to me, as we were an Air Force family and always moving. This was my one constant home. The one my grandfather built with his own hands in 1950s and my mom and aunt spent their teenage years in. It was always here for me, a refuge during moves, a place to visit my grandparents, to spend summers and Christmases, a place to be rocked to sleep by the crashing of the waves. A construction company owner has bought the house, and is going to knock it down to build a new, bigger, fancier one. So I won't even be able to come back and visit it. It's almost as bad as losing Mom, as a piece of my grandparents was always still around this place. It's like I'm losing Mom and my childhood home at the same time. So, I'm saying goodbye to Mom, home, and the beach all at once. Ah well, 'tis life. =((

Hurry back. Lots a wonderful, goofy folks around these parts miss you!

Sorry to hear this. And with the market the way it is, it won't bring anywhere what it would have 3 years ago. Can you buy it?
