And the winner is . . .
North Durham Little League
By a score of 16 - 0 (ended after 4 innings according to the Little League "mercy rule") North Durham Little league defeats Wilmington Little League in hitting festival. Our winning pitcher allowed only 2 hits (both singles).
Dan Murray went 2 for 2 with a walk, one rbi, and two runs scored. Brunchgaters can buy him a (root) beer at the fisrt brunchgate.
More later.

Very cool! Have a good time in Waynesville, that's where I lived for 5 years before moving to the beach. I don't miss it a damn bit.allen wrote:And the winner is . . .

Opening round of the State level tournament:
North Durham Little League 10 - Transylvania cCounty Little League 0
Dan was 1 for two at the plate with a single, a grond out, a fielders choice and a walk. One run scored, one RBI.
But our easy ride is over - Tomorrow we play Greenville, a powerhouse year after year. In the game previous toours they destroyed their opponent. I almost wish our winhadn't been so easy as I worry our boys are overconfident.

You know I'm going to pull for my boys from G-Vegas on this one.
I've spent several afternoons this spring watching my friends' kids play over at the Elm Street Park in Greenville.
Um, er, best of luck to Dan and Northern Durham. . .

Re: Little League Happenings
Holy Crap - it was like getting hit by a freight train. We gave up five runs in the first inning on two walks and four errors - it got in our kids heads and the wheels came off the bus. Greeneville won 11 - 1, knocking us into the loser's bracket of this double elimination tournament. Now we have to win five games in a row (if it ever stops raining).
On a better note, we took the kids to sliding rock in the Pisgah National Forest - iot was a blast

Re: Little League Happenings
Bummer about the game, but hiking and sliding in Pisgah is great fun. That's one of the few things I miss about living in Waynesville.allen wrote:Holy Crap - it was like getting hit by a freight train. Greenville is a baseball town. Those kids are very good.allen wrote:Holy Crap - it was like getting hit by a freight train. Good luck in the rest of the tournament. I'm glad that you did something fun with the kids that wasn't baseball related. They'll never forget their experience at sliding rock, or that you guys cared enough about them to keep them loose and entertained.

Wow. Bummer. At least it's double elimination so you have another chance. Good luck as you continue, assuming the weather breaks.allen wrote:Holy Crap - it was like getting hit by a freight train. And it sounds like you had fun at the National Forest, so that's a good thing.

Re: Little League Happenings
NDLL lost to Walkertown Little League, and thus we are finished until next year. All in all a great experience for the kids. Between the two tournaments (district and state) our all-stars compiled a record of 6 wins and 3 losses, nothing to sneeze at for a bunch of 11 year olds.
In addition to the games in Waynesville we took them to a bunch of waterfalls, to sliding rock, and a bunch of other "cool" mountain area stuff. The team that hosted the tournament were wonderful hosts and gave us lots of fun suggestions for things for the kids to do when we were not playing.
The kids were crushed after the loss that dropped us out of the tourney, but the great thing about 11 year olds is that by the next morning they were back to their "old selves", goofing off in the hotel pool, playing miniature golf, and basically having a great time. There is a lot to be learned from 11 year old resiliency.
By the way CathyCa - I will be shocked if Greenville is not the eventual winner of the tournament (to be determined on Thursday). They are an incredibly talented team.
Thanks to all for the support.
