Over yonder was sold to SBNation. The original 'founders'...Mike Julian James were paid for their shares. Julian is now an employee of SBNation. James has been out of the DBR for years, Mike had stepped way way back...so it is has been the Julian show for sometime now. It is no longer 'his site' although you wouldn't know it. As a contract employee he (Julian) is subject to termination just like anyone else. Wouldn't that be delicious irony? :ymdevil:

Bawhahahahahhahahaha!!!

As for the censorship, I rarely go over yonder. I go either because I'm really bored, I know there is an interesting topic due to something in the news, or someone posts a link about something. I have not logged in since April 2009, nor will I ever log in again. Buh-bye!

Tilly,

You took the words right out of my mouth. I rarely go there but hold no grudge. They DO get good news scoops. But this is my "home".........and it is a wonderful home.

ArkieDukie wrote:Definitely wrong to not let you know why the post was deleted, but I think I can guess why they deleted it. My guess is that the personal statement to Austin Rivers was the cause. There have been statements in the past about recruits reading message boards on fan sites and having it influence their decision. I'm sure that, if I was a coach, I'd be frustrated if I lost a recruit due to statements made by fans. It could also go the other way - someone could make promises of special favors to a recruit if they come to School X. That would get School X into some major trouble with the NCAA. Therefore, the moderators have to disallow personal statements, both positive and negative. Either type of statement has the potential to be harmful to the Duke basketball program. Again, a total guess on my part.
If that was the case, I think it would be far better to edit the post to remove the offending portion and say why, rather than just deleting it; a board I used to go to had a strong preference for not deleting posts except in cases of recurrent trolls and the like, and I agree with that policy. I think it's extremely disrespectful to the members to disappear posts, especially with no word of explanation--I don't have a problem with having rules, but I do have one with not telling people what they are (I know they've got a sticky of the posting rules, but you can't honestly expect everyone to memorize them, plus so many are a matter of interpretation). If you let people know when they've broken the rules, they're less likely to do it again, because the majority of the time they didn't do it intentionally. And it's not like the moderators don't have time to edit, since they have about a hundred over there. Sheesh.

That's why your mods are attorneys here. CathyCA knows people, and I know where to hide the bodies so they aren't found.... :)) :))

I don't think I've moderated anything over here in a long time.

Moderating here is one of the easiest gigs ever. Then again, I was one of the originals so there really wasn't much for us to do during our tenure so what do I know?

If it is no longer the personal playground that it was for so long the new owners should do something about the moderation over there as I can only believe that their style hurts the place by costing it members (as is the case with many of us) and that this hurts the new owners' bottom line.

From what I undersatnd the value of DBR dropped dramatically in the year or so before it was sold to SB Nation, and it was sold for a fraction of what its value had been during its "heyday". By SB nation standards DBR is a very small fish in a very large pond. I doubt they give it much thought at all.

I believe that is correct Allen. The beginning of the slide was during the Lax debacle...and it never recovered.

Y'know, you're exactly right. That would've been the right way to do it - unless you're lazy. I had a classmate in grad school who either gave all points or no points at all (no partial credit) for whatever question(s) he was grading (organic chemistry tests) because he was too lazy to give partial credit.

I didn't expect it had. Keep a tight watch on EJ ;) and let everyone else do as they wish!

I forget my password over there, for the very reasons that Tilly stated.
