I opened a checking and savings account as I planned, but part of the process is that they (BB&T) automatically apply you for a credit card. (You can opt out.) I was pretty sure I'd get shot down, since the other 2 times I applied with them I was denied. So I checked my online banking today and noticed a third account...for the Visa card! (Which was happily waiting for me in the mailbox.)
Here is why is it awesome...I have been trying like hell to pay off my credit debt. It's not an insane amount, but the interest rate I am paying on those cards IS insane. This is one reason why they have not been so easy to pay off. So now (according to my online banking) I have a $2500 credit limit with BB&T, at a totally reasonable rate (12% as opposed to 20something). As soon as I have that card in hand and it's activated, I'm transferring my existing credit balances to it. For the first 6 months, my APR is 0%, so that's even better..I get to enjoy 6 months of no more interest charges. Sure, I'll still owe the same amount of money, but it will be so much easier to pay off having all my debt in one spot and at a lesser rate. I'm happy! (And still in debt :ymtongue: )
I've found BB&T to be a great bank to deal with. I use BB&T for my small business. The only one better is the State Employees Credit Union.
I agree. My checking and money market accounts are with SECU. They rock!

My mortgage is with BB&T, and they service the account locally. They rock, too!

I changed my mortgage to SECU and cut the term by a third. Did the even better on my car loan. I've had BB&T for my mortgages when I lived in Durham. The service was fabulous, but I've found the credit union even better, particularly on refi's.
