That's an understatement.
Felipe's red card was deserved.

Kaka belongs with Wayne Rooney and C. Ronaldo as most overrated/underperforming performance in the World Cup. Well, then again, the whole French team deserves the award.

Well this throws me completely. I now have only one real team to root for (Spain) and two teams to root against (Argentina and Germany). I don't really care for the Dutch, but I'd much rather they win than Germany.

BY THE WAY, the French and Nigerians deserve FIFA punishment for the roles their governments are playing in the aftermath of the World Cup. Interestingly enough, if FIFA's projected sanctions take hold against Nigeria, their next scheduled game in the African Cup is against...

Speaking of Uruguay, the last play of overtime was one for the ages. Ghana played a ball at the goal, and the Uruguayan keeper got himself out of place, leaving one defender back to use his legs to block a shot by Ghana. The ball rebounded to the head of a Ghanaian. At that point, the keeper was still out of place, as a 2nd Uruguayan defender joined forces on the goal line in the goal. The Ghanaian headed the ball directly at the head of one of the defenders, and that player parried it away with his hands.

RED CARD. Immediately. That set up a PK attempt.

The Ghanaian hit the upper crossbar and it deflected away from the goal.

Last play of overtime.

Uruguay won on PKs 4-2.

WOW!!

By the way, Uruguay's #10, Forlan, may be the most underrated #10 in the tourney. His goal in regulation was beautiful.

By the way, Forlan has had a great career in Spain, but compared with the press attention for other #10s like Kaka, Rooney, Sneijder, Messi, Fabregas, Podolski, and even Donovan, Forlan is one player whose game and career should receive attention. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

One of my dorm buddies posted this status on her Facebook yesterday: 84,017 people at the world cup game and I run into a friend from college. Roseanne from Cincinnati, Ohio.

In response to a question posed by another one of our dormmates, Emma wrote, "Yes I ran into Roseanne V. from Duke as we exited the arena. She was with her husband, son and two daughters. The family was split. 50% supported Ghana and 50% supported Uruguay. Their faces were painted and they were interviewing with a news station. Her son was wearing a Duke shirt and I stopped to check them out. Small world indeed."

Germany needs a new national anthem. X(

Yet ANOTHER reason I dislike Germany in the World Cup. :o)

Glad to see that the quarterfinals are SAY NO TO RACISM games.

I wonder if the semis will be FAIR PLAY games.

Argentina vs. Germany
If you turn on this game, be prepared to watch what looks like Carowhinea vs. Wake, sans tie-dyed shirts and signs pleading fans to make noise.

Oh yeah... 4 minutes in and Germany is ahead 1-0.

I really HATE Germany in the World Cup.

Tevez (#11 for Argentina) is in the perfect (i.e., light blue) jersey. Every time a German looks at him harshly, he whines. :(( Unlike Hansblubber, though, he doesn't get all the calls....

Off to the gym at halftime.

More reasons why I dislike Germany in the World Cup:

1-0 at the half, Wake (Germany) ahead of Carowhinea (Argentina). Boring game.

When WILL Messi score a goal? Another #10 with an underwhelming performance.

They briefly showed Leonardo Dicaprio in a WVU hat. Then again, except for the hat, it could have been wilson! ;)

Should have been 8-0.
Messi now joins Rooney and Kaka as most overrated and least productive.
No more Maradona press conferences... he was a lot sillier than Bob Knight was in his end of Indiana days.
Germany exposed Argentina's weaknesses that were so present during their qualifying rounds in South America.
Would love to see Germany lose to Spain or Paraguay.
Perhaps the 2nd most boring game of the World Cup.

The offsides was the right call, IMO. The offside player created space for the goal to be scored and, therefore, Paraguay obtained an advantage from him being offsides. I think it's the right call.

Since I've been absent, I'll quickly chime in on something that has bugged me since the US lost to Ghana. On the game winner by Ghana, US CAPTAIN (!!!!!) Carlos Bocanegra quit on the play. He gave up well before the ball was in the net. The media completely ignored this fact. But, in the bar I watched the game in Milwaukee (while drinking a few too many Spotted Cows--delicious, by the way) that's all anyone could talk about.

Is Bocanegra getting a free pass since he's been the US Captain for so long? If so, that's a shame. Jay Demerit, who has half the talent of Bocanegra, kept fighting. Bocanegra's last game as US Captain ended in disgrace, as far as I'm concerned.
