ELO!
Okay, so driving to my part-time job this morning, I heard ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down" on the radio. I must admit that to me, it totally rocked. No, I'm not kidding. So, with ELO top-of-mind, I must ask, what is your opinion of them? They have several other great songs too and definitely a unique sound.

They had a couple of songs I liked, but I can't remember what they are.

Re: ELO!
One of my favorite groups of the 70s. Saw them twice in concert. Once at the Valley Forge Music Fair and they were fabulous. The 2nd time was in March or April, 1976 at the Greensboro Coliseum. That show was with Wet Willie and Journey who were absolutely horrible. Too freakin' loud. ELO was not much better at about 120 decibels. Saw Springsteen the next night at Duke on his Born to Run tour and really did not enjoy the show at all as my ears were still ringing and my head still hurt from the night before-with no alcohol or drugs. That was the beginning of my high frequency hearing loss which has continued to this day. We did not attend another rock concert for about 25 years. No kidding.
Back to ELO. I loved the blend of classic rock with the classical music influence and have just about all their CDs in addition to a boxed set and listen to it several times a year. Their early 70s stuff is really good and I kinda lost interest in them as they became more commercialized/top 40-ish and abandoned their strings (violins and cellos) for the late 70s/early 80s synthesizer and disco shit. Their last CD, Balance of Power from 1986, returns to their rock origins and is quite haunting with some of the lyrics describing their impending break-up.
Two of my favorites, one an old TV clip and the other a live performance from the "space ship":

I saw Wet Willie with Goose Creek Symphony and someone else that I have since forgotten(with good reason to forget it all) in GSO back in the 70's.devildeac wrote: That show was with Wet Willie and Journey who were absolutely horrible. Too freakin' loud.
Yes sir. I liked 'em.
Wait. I remember now. It was Charlie Daniels.

Re: ELO!
I have 3 of their songs loaded in my iPod right now:
Can't Get It Out of My Head
Sweet Talkin' Woman
Strange Magic
Listening to ELO brings back happy memories of junior high school.

No, that was sophomore year (1974). Second semester senior year I had moved off campus to avoid further confrontations with a certain other fraternity, who enjoyed scaring the shit out of me on a regular basis in November and December 1975.CathyCA wrote:You were probably busy streaking around the quad.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:I don't remember him playing at Duke that spring.
