I was wondering the same thing? On the rare occasions that I enjoy this delicacy, I like to twirl the noodles on my fork and then drink the juice! ;) Great idea though about the light weight aspects for backpacking. BTW did your noodles get crushed while you were hiking?DukeUsul wrote:Why would you break up the noodles? If they were supposed to be eaten like that, they would come that way. Do you cut your spaghetti with a knife too?

I've backpacked with ramen before, In SE Asia, it works very well, as you can usually get eggplants to stir fry with the ramen. In Madagascar, however, it's not needed, as EVERY village has rice, and rice is better for you anyway.

I add vegetables and meat to my ramen, trying to make it into a meal. Occasionally, I will have kim-chee along with it(but never in it).

I don't make soup; after cooking, I drain off most of the water and then season the noodles with about half of the packet and eat them like spaghetti with a fork.

Re: Do you crush your Ramen?
I'll remember that! I bought a box of them (approximately 100 ) for like $5 bucks! What a bargain! It always amazes me at how cheap but filling these lil dishes are and how they can make any money, guess it is a dollar at a time! The Eggplant sounds like a delicious twist! My favorite person made me an eggplant casserole once (I grew the eggplants special for the occasion) and it was outstanding! I love that dish, but will try the eggplant mixed in.Lavabe wrote:I've backpacked with ramen before, In SE Asia, it works very well, as you can usually get eggplants to stir fry with the ramen. Re: Do you crush your Ramen?
Good point on the packet! I try to minimize on it as well. I also look to make sure there is no MSG in any of the foods/seasonings, etc. I buy or prepare.... MSG makes my heart race like a love child of the 60's, but the let down wipes me out! All is better and I'm still the love child without added influence of MSG! ;)gadzooks wrote:I don't make soup; after cooking, I drain off most of the water and then season the noodles with about half of the packet and eat them like spaghetti with a fork.

Noodles were not crushed during hiking. If you pack correctly, this should never be a problem.cl15876 wrote:I was wondering the same thing? Couldn't do it...years and years of family tradition. I will not be the one bringing shame upon the family with such behavior. ;)Miles wrote:Go ahead, be radical, take a risk and crush em.YmoBeThere wrote:I think I'm going to have ramen right now...
