The Apollo Missions Coverage - What is Missing?
Okay, I WAS going to post this under an entirely different headline. But I thought I'd make it a bit of a mystery/question to you all to see if you could figure it out first.
I am NOT a conspiracy guy, though I DO entertain them and have an open mind. I was watching television tonight (show on the moon landing), and it hit me. I have seen all the footage I think is available to the public. I have heard all the post-mission interviews. All that said, there is one thing I am dissapointed about and it makes me want to ask:
What is missing from all the Apollo/Lunar mission photos, video, interviews, etc? It is not something minor. It is something that I would be VERY interested in learning about (e.g., astronaut's perspective, photos of any kind, etc.).
Can you think of it? What is missing?
-EarlJam (p.s. "EarlJam" is not the answer, nor is "the lack of star-filled skies" - that has been explained)

Good guess but NO. That has been well documented. Somewhere out there in the cosmos, flies the dookie of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. I seriously do not know what is more impressive; to say you were the first to land on the moon, or to be able to tell someone with a straight face that you took a shit between the Earth and the moon.CathyCA wrote:How did they go to the bathroom???

What is missing is.....
The Sun.
If you were in outer space, going to the moon, wouldn't you be interested in the perspective of the Earth to the Sun in space???? I would. They never talk about it (at least not in things I've heard).

I'm not totally sure what you mean. Are you saying they don't have photos of the earth and the sun at the same time?
Here's an interesting historical discussion from NASA on the impact of sun elevation in the sky and how it impacted the launch window of Apollo 11.

Re: The Apollo Missions Coverage - What is Missing?
They didn't turn Voyager around to take a picture of the solar system until it was done with all the photography they wanted because even at great distance they were afraid the sun would burn the camera...I would imagine that's why there aren't any 'sun' pictures from Apollo other than the sunrise/earth shot.

If there were no sun, there would be no light to illuminate the pictures. There would be total darkness.
I still think it's far more interesting to speculate about how the astronauts went to the bathroom without the privacy of a door and a bathroom fan.

I have to say I agree with CathyCA, i was wondering the same thing! Don't they have some purification suit/technology that you just kind of go and everything is reusable? if so, doing the first part would definitely be a challenge, but as for the second part, I am glad that I'm not an astronaut! Pellegrino please! ;)EarlJam wrote:Set acoustics for full reverb:devildeac wrote:CathyCA wrote:If there were no sun, there would be no light to illuminate the pictures. There would be total darkness.

Not at all. When we have no sun we can have plenty of moonshine and can take photos. Similarly, on the moon, if the sun is down and you get earthshine, it could be quite bright.CathyCA wrote:If there were no sun, there would be no light to illuminate the pictures. There would be total darkness.

The shine--whether earthshine or moonshine--came from the sun.DukeUsul wrote:Not at all. When we have no sun we can have plenty of moonshine and can take photos. So you mean if the sun didn't exist? I thought you meant it if was around the other side. If the sun didn't exist we'd have much bigger problems than darkness....CathyCA wrote:The shine--whether earthshine or moonshine--came from the sun.DukeUsul wrote:Not at all.
