Duke Baseball

Post by EarlJam » March 8th, 2010, 2:41 pm

How is the baseball team supposed to be this year? May try getting into that more.

Also, why is it that college baseball has never really "taken off?"

Discuss.

They are supposed to be good, and better than last year (when they actually had a chance to play in the acc champ game). Most of their games will be played at the DBAP this year, and that will help interest. Currently they are 7-3 with a 6 game win streak. Sean McNally is a young coach, who is doing a great job of recruiting talent. They should be fun to watch this year, I'm actually thinking about taking in a game if I get the chance. (And of all sports, I watch baseball the least)

Hasn't one of the problems for this program over the years been the lack of scholarships for players?

Duke baseball had its best season in years last year, narrowly missing the tournament. The team is poised for another step forward this year. Duke has not played in the NCAA tournament since 1956.
As for college baseball in general, it is pretty popular in places. The Pac-10 and SEC have pretty strong followings, and the ACC is actually a very strong baseball conference. In fact, you can say that expansion has benefited baseball as much or more than any other sport...both Florida State and Miami are powers.
Baseball is huge at ECU. I attended far more ECU baseball games than any other sport, and the stadium is among the nicest I've seen...could pretty easily pass for a minor-league facility.

Duke tied their series with the holes today, winning 15-11. Friday's game was ugly, the baby blues won 21-9 (this is baseball?). The tie-break is played tomorrow at 1, game is at the DBAP.

Holy Shitskies...this is actually pretty huge. Duke took the series over the holes today...I do believe this is the second year in a row that Duke has done that. Sweet.

Duke got 3 votes in the USATODAY polls. Pretty sweet, I think that's a first.

WOW...I was talking to devildeac at lunch about Duke baseball, and how it seems they are not as good this year, even though hopes were high. Well...the took the series from Clemson today. This by the way is the third 11th seeded team they've played this year. Miami and the heels were both ranked 11th when they played. (The heels lost :D ). GT was ranked third, they beat the shit out of Duke.

Congrats on taking another ACC series Devils!

They lost to f$u yesterday, 8-3. Huge series this weekend against the bottom-dwelling d****. Duke really needs to win this series, ideally with a sweep, to near that .500 ACC record and inch toward that 8th and final ACC tourney spot and an NCAA bid.

They were up 3-0 going into the 5th, and then got the hurting laid on them. FSU started off with 4 runs in one inning to wipe out Duke's lead, and never looked back. :ymtongue:

They really, really need a sweep.

Have they played the twerps yet?

If they haven't, they need to sweep that one, too.
