.........under the guise of asking whether the wax myrtle on the lot line was ours or theirs (it needs trimming evidently). Before hanging up, he said "And oh yes, could you do me a big favor?" I said "sure". He said, "Could you take down that flag?"

I told him sweetly that he'd better just get used to that flag.

This is really bugging me. Did you ask any of your neighbors to take down their icky blue flags last year? Knowing you Ima, I don't believe you did. What a jerk!

BTW, who is going to trim the wax myrtle? If it's you, I'm happy to loan you my Duke pep band CD so you can play it for the world to hear while you're doing your trimming.

I think you should go out this afternoon and buy those cute little Duke garden flags and line your driveway with them. And deck the front door with a string of Duke Blue lights.

Once again, Tilly and I had exactly the same thought. If they flew a tacky blue flag last year, they have lots of nerve asking you to take yours down. If they have a missing flag this year, maybe they need a true blue replacement.

Why, you've given me a great idea! He's the one who will be working in the yard today since he has no game to watch). I'm going to put the fight song on a loop to play out the backyard outdoor speakers over and over and over again for the rest of today at least!

I've thought about this incident since I read the account earlier today. Your neighbor must be feeling quite a lot of pain/envy to make a request like that! Maybe after the tournament you can take him some delicious blueberry muffins to help him get past this pain.

Enjoy being able to fly your Duke flag.... mine was stolen late one November night during the first year I lived here....it was flying very near my front door. I now display my loyalty in subtle, but persistent displays of royal blue everything.

Ima, do all of the above. I like the "ram chops menu". You could have the menu printed and invite them to dinner. Use Duke place mats, napkins, glasses, etc. Oh, be sure to put barf bags at their place, carolina blue of course.
