When I was six years old and in the first grade, I caught chickenpox and was forced to miss school. Because my dad was the principal, our family lived in a house on the school grounds. I decided that I was tired of staying home and wanted to go back to school, so I climbed out the front window which opened on to a screened porch. I got as far as my classroom before my mother retrieved me and took me home.

Nope, but I've climbed IN a window. In college one Saturday night, several sorority sisters and I were woefully late for curfew at the house. Fortunately, one of the sisters (who happened to be our standards chairman, by the way)knew that the window over the sink in the kitchen was always unlocked. We all climbed through the window, into and out of the sink, and made it to our rooms without demerits. Moral of the story is to always travel in the company of the enforcer.

Does climbing out of a treehouse, slipping, falling and landing on my back in a drainage ditch count?

My wife's dog climbed out her window once, but she didn't slide off the roof. They were driving in a car. :twitch:

Are you guys sensing a trend with VDB's threads? So, here's the story: the four of had the slackest babysitter one day who stayed downstairs and watched TV. We lived in a two story house with a dormer window on the second floor. We decided that it would be fun to slide down the roof. It's not as scary as it sounds because the house had a tin roof which flattened out with asphalt shingles. We climbed out the window and up to to peak of the roof and slid. The shingles stopped us before the edge of the roof! My sister wore holes in every pair of pants she owned that day.

Another fun roof story involves Bud and the same roof. He was working on something up there one day when we heard these loud thumpity, thump, thumps on the roof immediately followed by a whump on the ground. This provoked a looooong string of cussing from Dad. He went back up to the roof to finish the job but this time he tied the end of a rope around the chimney and the other end around his waist. Once again we heard loud thumpity, thump, thump, thumps on the roof, but no whomp on the ground. Of course cussing followed, but it was minimal cussing :D

Bud's lucky he didn't pull the chimney down behind him! THAT would have left a mark...
