Bargain Hunting

Ozzie's tale of scoring the great bargain on a sofa bed for his daughter and her growing young family got me thinking about bargain hunting in general. I love bargain hunting, and consider myself a leader in the field. I'm especially good with clothes...just point me to the clearance rack, good sir. Electronics can be had cheaply too, if you know how and where to look.
Who else likes to track and slay the bargain?

I thought of your wife last night when I was at Harris Teeter. First of all, your wife now has me buying things that I wouldn't normally buy because they are on sale, as well as buying things I need that are on sale. K68 and I are going to have ribeye steaks for dinner tonight, because they were on sale.

Anyway, getting back to why I thought of your wife. As I was checking out I was commenting about the number of people in the store, naturally we were all there to stock up on bread, milk, eggs and other necessary items to get us through the horrific storm on it's way. The young man shared with me that the store was giving every one 5% discount on their bills. I almost fell over, then thanked God that I happened to be so lucky. I figured Mrs. DukeUsel would be proud.

As far as great bargains. Talbots credit card holders accrue dividend points every time they buy something, and occasionally have offers such as spending $150 at one time, then getting a coupon to use during a specified period of time. A few years ago, I spent the requisite dollar amount and received a 30% off coupon to be used during a certain time frame. About a week or so after I received the coupon, Talbots sent out a message that the coupon had been increased to 40% off, no limitations on what one could buy. You can buy newly introduced items, items on sale, whatever.

I tend to go to the Talbots outlet when I visit my parents as they have GREAT sales. The clothes are from the previous years' line, but who cares it's Talbots, their clothes never go out of style. A few years back I bought a ton of clothes for which I only paid $32 after using my 40% off coupon and a $25 dividend check. Had I paid full price on all the clothes, I would have spent about $1200.

I scored a couple of great new ties for a steal today (about 60% off regular price). Also a pocket square and a pair of argyles (pair #30). These last two items are tough to find these days, especially if you're looking for a bargain, so I'm particularly pleased with those.

The High Museum of Art is free to anyone with a Fulton County ID on the first Saturday of each month. It's usually pretty crowded, but it's not unbearable and it's totally worth it.

I did almost that well over Christmas getting a couple pairs for $33 each with a $10 coupon at Macy's for every two pair purchased.

Does this count as a bargain?

I've been coveting a cute sweater at Talbots since Christmas. I've waited for the price to come down, which it did $99 to $59.99. So, I decided it was time to buy it. I used a $50 gift certificate I got for Christmas, and a $25 dividend check I earned from spending money at Talbots. As I bought the t-shirt that goes with the sweater, my total out of pocket expense was $9.20.

Even if it isn't a bargain, I'm still going to look super cute in my new sweater.

I scored at Harris Teeter today. Buy 2, get 3 Palermo's Pizza. The price came to about 3.00 each. Its one of our favorite frozen pizza's. I also picked up crab legs for 2.99 a lb. and were they ever good. Oh yea, its Thursday, so I got my senior citizen discount. Not to shabby.
