She was a ho then, she's a ho now. I wonder if she knows Tiger Woods. . .
Tiger may have acted like a douchebag but at least he had high enough standards so as to keep her out of the pool.
Taken by itself (the party with the stripper), might have been harmless and tame. However, the team was on a very short leash having been in the police and public eye for various other offenses (public drunkeness, public urination, loud and obnoxious behavior in a residential 'hood, etc). Pressler had warned them after their match that day or the day before, "not to do anything stoopid," and that's exactly what they did. What they did was also on University property and that makes it more offensive and damaging to the school. They certainly did not deserve the absolute hell to which they were subjected but their judgment was highly questionable.
What he said. I just wish our youth could learn from this. When I say "our youth", I mean all youth. I know, I want too much.

I wasn't fully aware of the background (either never heard about it or had forgotten about it). With that in mind, their decision was extremely stupid.

I followed it REAL closely living in the area and got to talk to one of the LAX lawyers, one of my neighbors, on several occasions during the case.

MOst of what you've said has been well stated, but this isn't true. Those houses didn't become university property until after the lacrosse incident, in precise hopes of preventing future such indiscretions.devildeac wrote:What they did was also on University property and that makes it more offensive and damaging to the school.

Not so sure. I thought Duke bought a buncha houses off East Campus starting a year or two before that to reduce/prevent the # of such incidents. I thought Duke/the media made a big deal about it 'cuz it WAS Duke property.wilson wrote:MOst of what you've said has been well stated, but this isn't true. And for what ever it's worth, the houses were purchased from a Duke grad.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:No, those houses were purchased AFTER the incident.devildeac wrote:Not so sure. The property was conveyed on February 28, 2006 by General Warranty Deed recorded in Book 5126, Page 678 of Durham County Registry. Soleil, LLC was the Grantor and Durham Realty, Inc. was the Grantee.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:OZZIE4DUKE wrote:And for what ever it's worth, the houses were purchased from a Duke grad.devildeac wrote: No, those houses were purchased AFTER the incident.
Guy T. Solie was the Member/Manager of Soleil, LLC at the time of the conveyance. He got an undergraduate degree from Duke in 1967 and he finished his PhD in 1976.
Durham Realty, Inc. is a non-profit holding company for the benefit of Duke University.
The current assessed value of the property is $106,916.
I love the internet! I've pulled up all these documents right here on my little laptop. Back in the day, checking these documents would have necessitated a trip to the courthouse in Durham, and a trip over to the Secretary of State in Raleigh.

Re: Crystal Mangum
I think that makes the purchase BEFORE the LAX incident, which was 3/06, IIRC. I thought my memory from reading about all the events was pretty good.CathyCA wrote:Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:

Here's a blog post from 2007 that agrees with DD.devildeac wrote:I think that makes the purchase BEFORE the LAX incident, which was 3/06, IIRC. I thought my memory from reading about all the events was pretty good.CathyCA wrote:Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:

Re: Crystal Mangum
Thanks. I followed this travesty really closely and thought I remembered one of the points against the LAXers behavior/actions was that they hired the 'ho/stripper to perform and it was on Duke property. Once again, bad judgment but absolutely no crime.DukeUsul wrote:Here's a blog post from 2007 that agrees with DD.devildeac wrote:I think that makes the purchase BEFORE the LAX incident, which was 3/06, IIRC. Re: Crystal Mangum
Can you imagine if this had been a party thrown by the basketball team during their spring break?
Coach K always emphasized to his team that people were looking for them to screw up, not just on the court, but off the court as well. He drilled in to them that they were representatives of the basketball program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. And it's also something that he and Mickie taught their girls. It's tough to go around with that type of responsibility, but it's one of the burdens that those who are associated with a high profile program must carry.
The LAXers never realized how high profile they really were, and how much our neighbors who have worshiped the light blue sheep would like to bring them down. The LAXers used poor judgment in opening up their party to someone from outside the Gothic walls of Duke, and they paid a high price for doing so.
