Ymm Pastrami!

Chutzpah Deli, Tysons Corner, VA.

OH MY GOD!!!!!

The pastrami was incredible! Got there and went to the take out counter and told them they came highly recommended and was very comparable to "the mother ship - Carnegie Deli". Yes, I said it just like that. I asked if I could have a taste of both the pastrami and corned beef, with the intention of buying a combo sandwich to go. They gave me a full slice (about 8" long, just sliced) and my eyes bugged out as I tasted it. I look forward to eating at Carnegie on Sunday, but I might just have a new standard. It was THAT good. The flavor was incredible.

I then tried the corned beef. It was good, but I have always liked pastrami better because of the more intense taste.

I got the large (12 oz. of meat) pastrami (not a combo) on rye. It was nicely heated! I asked for and got 3 extra slices of rye bread. Free! I made a nice half sandwich in the parking lot and ate it before I left. Then I ate strips of pastrami for the next hour or so while driving, until they ran out :( :( :( :( I then ate the bread that had all the delicious pastrami flavor soaked into it. And the pickles they included were good too!

I'm sorry that Bones and Bjornolf couldn't join me for dinner there tonight, but I am so very glad I went out of my way to stop there for lunch. And if for some reason I can't get to Carnegie on Sunday, I know where my next pastrami sandwich will come from as I drive home!

Ozzie, that is great news! We now have a good alternative! The road trip may not be as far to NY now! Wooo hooo! There are many other places in Tysons also and then if we get a lady caravan (I have plenty of room), there is the Leesburg outlets, Talbots Outlet in Springfield, WSD shoes, etc. etc..., I'll be happy to host as long as my girl is here also! ;) I take it that you got to NJ okay, whewww!!! When were you in Tysons?

As some of you know, I didn't take the time or make the effort to get to Carnegie Deli before leaving for home yesterday morning. But thanks to DD's travel misfortunes he did (THANK YOU again, DD!), and I picked up the goodies this morning, and had both corned beef and pastrami for lunch today (about 1/4 of the Woody). I even had the pastrami on the extra bread I brought home from Chutzpah, just to make it fair.

The difference between corned beef and pastrami is the seasoning on the outside of the meat - the black peppery looking stuff, although I have no idea what's in it (besides pepper). And I'm sure some of the seasoning soaks into the meat itself as it is "corned". The flavor of Carnegie's is indeed superb, but the same flavor is more intense on the Chutzpah pastrami. If I rate Carnegie's pastrami as 9F, and I do, I have to change Chutzpah's rating to 10F. Ladies and gentleman, we have a new champion! Congratulations to Chutzpah Deli!

Ooohhhhh, I will have to check this place out on a future NoVa visit (we're going down this week, not sure I want to brave Tyson's at Christmas, but maybe the next time after that). :drool:

Oh, but wait, there's one in Fairfax. That's a lot easier to get to from my mom's place. \:D/

Bjornolf recommended the one in Fairfax because that's closer to him, but this was closer to I-495 for a quick stop off on the way through. And I must tip my hat to Bjornolf for the recommendation to begin with - THANK YOU!

We've been watching a show about cold cuts on the History Channel (Modern Marvels), and they opened with the pastrami making process for Carnegie Deli. The show was dated 2007, but in case anyone has missed it, look for it. Beyond the pastrami segment, the whole show is pretty fascinating.

Hopefully devildeac's future SIL will select PASTRAMI for the wedding reception. :D

I'm thinking that the pastrami version of a reuben would be a wise choice. :D
