Let's talk VEGETABLES!

Post by EarlJam » December 22nd, 2009, 12:10 am

When you go to the store, what brand, in general, of vegetable do you purchase? Now I fully understand that this can differ from product to product. For instance, you may prefer Del Monte Corn but are more desirous of Green Giant Wax beans. But what brand, IN GENERAL, do you go with?

Please remember, this is a TASTE issue. Please vote on taste, not cost.

Thank you,

I like Jolly Green and Del Monte, but will always defer to name brand (if possible) OR FRESH if available (always preferred) that only has vegetable and low or NO sugar! Sugar is always natural!

Most store brand canned (at WalMart or Food Lion) vegetables are decent. If we find something that's not comparable to the name brand, then we switch to the name brand. I guess Del Monte has the most shelf space.

i usually buy only frozen vegetables. because they are prepared quicker, they don't lose nutrients like canned veggies. i prefer the taste of frozen verses canned.

90% of our veggies are fresh. If we buy canned for a specific recipe, it's usually Wegman's store brand. Most of my beans are Goya.

in the summer we usually have a large garden. we couldn't get one in this past summer. sure did miss all the veggies. this year, we do hope to get a garden planted. i wish bud wouldn't plant soooooo much. about a 1/2 acre. 2 years ago we had over 100 tom. plants. i made & froze a lot of spagetti sauce & tomatoes, plain and with diferent seasoning.

There is a Trader Joe's in Chapel Hell. Could you visit the store the next time you're in this area? Just a thought.

I have never been to Trader Joe's. Must add to my bucket list.

There is a new Trader Joe's just inside the Beltline on Wake Forest Road here in Raleigh. You could send 8-x by with a LLOOOONNGGGG list when he comes to town to pick up something from us on Saturday or Sunday.

Tilly, I shopped at that TJ's in CH when I first moved back to NC. I stocked up on 2BuckChuck and Altoids gum.

Sam and I shopped at that one when he flew in for Thanksgiving on our way from RDU to G-Vegas.

You have a GREAT idea, DD, and I may follow up on it with a very long shopping list for 8-x . He's going to Raleigh on Saturday or Sunday? Sigh.

We have a Fresh Market here in Greenville. I think our little town could also support a Trader Joe's.

I think Greenville is perfect for a Trader Joe's. I would've shopped there had it been around when I was in school.

Word to the wise, it's no longer 2BuckChuck; they're calling it 3DollaHolla now. :-q :-q :-t ~x( =; 8-} [-x

I had heard it was still 2BuckChuck in Californication but 3BuckChuck in North Cackalackey because they had to "sell" it to the ABC bunchabastards Board who then sold it back to Trader Joe's with an extra Buck added for the alkiehol tax.
