Kyrie Irving - Impact Freshman

Post by Jesus_hurley » November 20th, 2009, 1:19 pm

Kyrie Irving has been listed as the #3 impact freshman by ESPN

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiti ... id=4666544
Duke was searching for the elite point guard it has lacked in recent years, and the Blue Devils got him. Irving has the ability to score the ball from different spots on the floor and put up big numbers in any contest. Along with that, he has great peripheral vision and can find an open teammate at a moment's notice.
There are no holes in his game or on the list :D

I certainly hope he has no 'holes in his game and any 'holes have been crossed off his list. ;) :D

I'm just glad this thread wasn't merged with the 'welcome' thread as it was elsewhere. Since welcoming him and talking about his potential impact are just so much alike....

Not that I'm bitter or anything

It will be fun to see how more or less Barnes and Irving each have an impact on their teams. I'm guessing impact wise that Irving will have more of one for Duke than Barnes for the 'holes, because we needed Irving more than unc needed Barnes. Being a point guard, I wonder how he and Smith will play next year. Where will Scheyer play? Where will Curry fit in? Irving will affect our entire team, I don't see Barnes doing the same for the holes.

KI will be the PG and NS will be the SG and SC will be a WG/WF but they will be interchangeable to a degree. I think we'll see a lotta 3 guards and 2 bigs next year.

Scheyer will play in the NBA. ;) :D

My guess is Scheyer will play in the NBA :D

I would expect that Irving and Smith are the starting backcourt with Dawkins, Curry, Thornton as the reserves. Kelly, Singler, Hairston and Olek [insert Roscoe Smith here...] play the 3/4. Hairston, Plumlee, Plumlee play the 4/5. But of course we don't play positions....

In the backcourt there is a ton of talent 1-5. Nolan, Curry, Thornton and Irving can all play point. Andre, Curry, Irving and Nolan can all play the off-guard position. Thornton is a 'lock-down' defender (and a Kendall Marshall killer - aka 'Butter', and not because he likes it on toast). No Singler next year? Lots of 3 guard lineups. Going to be lots of fun!

***Doh! I typed too slow to get the Scheyer reference in.....

As if Irving wasn't impressive enough.....

Kyrie Irving is one of the 10 high school seniors headlining the Naismith Trophy Boy’s High School Player of the Year list.
