Re: Ycch, Beer!
Just finished off the remnants of a sampler pack from the Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, and I was extremely disappointed. I even bought a few cases over the past few months to be sure. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't . The brewpub is a converted church in a hardscrabble neighborhood that the Diocese of Pittsburgh voted off the island. I understand they kept many of the architectural features of the old building, and I would love a chance to go visit. Perhaps getting whatever is fresh-brewed and matching it with their food would yield better results.
The samplers consist of:
Celestial Gold
Pipe Organ Pale Ale
Thunderhop IPA
Pious Monk Dunkel
They were also-rans compared to other micros in their class. The Dunkel was the best of the bunch, but none of them were better than Iron City. Maybe I'm not giving them a fair shake. http://www.churchbrew.com/

I'll quote/link an article later today from the 9/30 n&o in which they did a taste test for good "cheap" beers and then "bad" cheap beers. Hint: budlite tied for last with one of the miller swills.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Note the paragraph near the end of the article:
"The bottom feeders? Bud Light, which had no weight, no finish and a tinny taste. Milwaukee's Best also was panned as metallic and thin."

Kona Wailua Wheat, Limited Edition.
Thank goodness this is a limited edition. It was horrible. I picked it up this afternoon in a six-pack mixer from Bloom. I wanted a nice wheat beer to enjoy on the porch in the afternoon. It poured light and thin, no head. It smelled and tasted like rotten fruit.
I'm quite happy that I picked up a Hell's Belle as beer two in my sampling.
