Ymm, Stadium Food
My sincere apologies if this topic has been dealt with earlier, but the Search didn't turn up such a thread. Please merge with the appropriate thread if there is one.
Wilson mentioned that he was going to the Falcons game. That made me wonder:
What is your favorite food at a sporting venue?
For me, maybe it was when I attended a St. Louis Blues vs. LA Gretzky Kings game. I had the nachos and Bud Ice back at the St. Louis Arena (that was the former Checkerdome... and of course, it's been torn down long ago).
A close second place was a simple brat at Fenway. Elegant in its simplicity. Tasty beyond words.
Discuss.

Garlic fries at Candlestick or PacBell Park.

Re: Ymm, Stadium Food
I can't recall many memorable stadium food that I have enjoyed except perhaps some nachos at the old DBAP along with a brat/Italian sausage or two.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.
Re: Ymm, Stadium Food
Either a brat or a smoked kielbasa, at Comerica in Detroit, to munch on while you watch the Tigers tear your heart out yet again.....
Honorable mention: fresh knishes and surprisingly well-priced import beer at the new Mets stadium, while you watch an exercise in futility.

What kind of knishes? Potato? Meat? Kasha?weezie wrote:Either a brat or a smoked kielbasa, at Comerica in Detroit, to munch on while you watch the Tigers tear your heart out yet again.....

devildeac: It was the Italian sausage at the old DBAP. That would probably be #3 on my list.
But the garlic fries that Cathy mentioned sound delicious.

I think some of the best stadium food is served up out in the parking lot!

Two hot dogs at Jacobs Field in Cleveland. One with Cleveland Stadium Mustard (it's kind of a big deal) and onions, and the other with nacho cheese. To get the latter you have to flirt with the women behind the counter a bit, but a couple of compliments and winks and you'll be in nacho-hot-dog heaven.
vs. Ken vs. Ryu. Classic.

Re: Ymm, Stadium Food
Ballpark food has definitely improved with all the new parks; there are a lot more choices now in addition to the standard aramark fare. But the best ballpark food is what you decide to bring in; it's an old cheapskate habit still left over from when I was a kid. (I know not all minor league parks let you do this). I like to bring in a good Italian hoagie from a local deli; in Philly there's a Tony Luke's is within walking distance of the sports complex.
If I'm buying inside, I guess I'm partial to hot sausage with pepper and onions, or nachos with the melted "cheese" and jalapenos, washed down with the closest thing to a local brew they happen to have.
DiBD nailed it though: do it right at a good tailgate, and there's no need to eat inside. In fact, sometimes, there's no need to even GO inside!!

The nachos at the Georgia Dome are actually pretty darned good.
The barbecue at Turner Field, believe it or not, is very good.
Hot dogs taste better at the ballpark.
I seem to recall eating just about anything in front of me when I was drunk at Duke games as an undergrad...and it was even on points!

I have not yet been to Turner Field but I will keep that in mind when I go.wilson wrote:The nachos at the Georgia Dome are actually pretty darned good.

Speaking of eating just about anything, does some charity group (Kiwanis? Rotary?) still sell those "chili" dogs at Wallace Wade?

Re: Ymm, Stadium Food
I had a pretzel, BBQ sandwich, and homemade icecream in kenan today...
I'll admit the icecream was good.
That was the only thing in the stadium that was good.
