That would be a tough call for a parent to make. I know which way the kid would vote.DukeUsul wrote:Saw a flyer up at Duke Pediatrics wanting parents to volunteer their children for H1N1 (piggy) flu vaccine trials. I'm not at all against vaccines (I love them in fact), and I'm all for getting my family involved in research (Katie has twice participated in studies at the Duke Infant Cognition Center).... but something gives me the heebie jeebies about putting my kid in a H1N1 (piggy) flu vaccine study.

Congratulations on 18. May you have many rewarding years ahead of you!Bostondevil wrote:I forgot to post yesterday that Mr. Bostondevil and I made it to 18 years. We celebrated by him flying to a meeting in DC. I went to dinner with the kids and his parents who are visiting. He called at bedtime and I didn't have time to talk to him. I didn't even buy myself a present this year. Hmmmm, hope we make it to 19!

I've never gotten a flu shot. I'm not in one of the at-risk groups so I've never seen a reason to get one. I have a friend that would get one every year and would up off work at least 1 week due to illness each year. I think she did better the year she didn't get the shot.

I never got the flu shot until last year. I was never in an at-risk group, and it always seemed there was a shortage. Might as well let the kids and old folks get the shot before me, right?
I did get it last year once Katie came along. I don't want to pick something up and increase her risk of getting anything.

I've only gotten a flu shot once, I think 3 years ago. So far I've never gotten the flu, but with a pregnant daughter, I think I will get all the shots just so I don't risk exposing her whenever I get to see her. I believe pregnant people (I'm including the husbands in this group) are in the high risk group that are recommended to get ALL the shots.devildeac wrote:Got my regular flu shot today and I'll have the H1N1 when it is available in a month or so.CameronBornAndBred wrote:You know there are two? Hey Devildeac.... did I ever tell you, you look just like King Leo from "The Royal Broomstick," one of Katie's favorite bedtime stories (I picked it up for her at Windsor Castle during my recent trip). I need to find a pic of him or maybe I'll have to scan the page in for you.

I've never received a flu shot either. I don't think I've ever had the flu. I wonder how many people say "Oh I've got the flu" and really have it.DukieInKansas wrote:I've never gotten a flu shot. I did let a case of strep throat get out of hand. It was bad, very very bad.

It's hilarious, because he's a King and his crown looks just like your avatar. But he has a mustache just like yours in real life! Now that I think of it, HE'D be the perfect avatar for you here!

Re: LTE 2.0
My wife used to always get the flu shot when I didn't. About 5 years ago, she got the flu BAD over Christmas. I got it from her a few days later. We were both out of commission for a week. That year the flu shot definitely had the wrong critters in it.Miles wrote:I've never received a flu shot either. I don't think I've ever had the flu.
