Holy crap. I went over to the Faux News website to see how they were covering Pres Musk’s antics. The story is buried under a lot of other pro-Trump propaganda and is a positive spin on Musk’s plans to eliminate USAID. Absolutely nothing about him illegally infiltrating other agencies and stealing private data and state secrets. This is the #1 news network in the country, and they are completely whitewashing everything Trump and Musk are doing. Trump’s followers are completely in the dark about what is going on, and they won’t believe anything we say since Faux isn’t reporting it. We are so screwed.
Yup. I think I mentioned above that a friend of mine posted a Breitbart link about the minister who told Trump to be a decent human being and then followed it up by saying she was getting ripped in the press. Everything I saw was pretty positive (or at least very neutral) about what she did. They all live in an alternate universe with alternate sources of information and, increasingly, alternate values.

This is not going to end well. But they will all believe it was someone else's fault. Still wondering about all of the evangelists who are forgetting about the whole "you shall have no other God than me" part of the Bible. Because they are currently worshipping someone like a God, as instructed by Murdoch, Inc.

It doesn’t help that CNN’s website is apparently going to a subscription-based model, so people cannot easily read things outside the Fox bubble. Is there a good alternative out there?

ICE is in my town today. Only a matter of time until they round up the families of my daughters’ friends. 🤮

I use Yahoo as my newsfeed source, since it's a collection of stories from all over. Even some of the CNN paywalled ones are there, unhindered.

What CNN is doing is moronic, I will never pay $ to a broadcast network that's already making bajillions from advertising.

Exactly. I already pay a subscription in my cable bill for their channel. I’ll be damned if I’m gonna pay them a second time.

Thanks for the Yahoo suggestion.

Dumb question - how do you know they were there?

My son has at least two kids in his grade (fifth) who are at risk - they just arrived last spring. Fun times talking to a fifth grader about whether his classmates will be taken away in the dark of night. He also has a child in his class who was a boy and now presents as a girl who is a kind, smart, child with much better manners and values than most people in DC these days. Our after school sitter is Mexican-American (pretty sure she was born here and 100% sure she is legal) and her family bootstrapped their way into opening a small Mexican restaurant in NYC - the American dream. I don't ask her how she feels about all of this. It would be nice if all of the Republicans left their bubbles and met some of these people and looked them in the eye and said these things.

I think that the border situation is a mess and something needs to be done. I'm not sure what that is. But their obsession with it and using it to blame for everything wrong in the world is nuts.

Same with DEI. The way it has been implemented is not ideal. But it has its merits and the obsession with it and using it as a scapegoat is bonkers.

But if Murdoch tells the ignorant masses that something is important and a problem, then obviously it is.

Bronxville or Scarsdale? :D

So if I remember correctly, the thought was that Biden had simultaneously pissed off Jews and Palestinians with how he was handling Israel, and that there were a lot of Arab-American voters, particularly in Michigan, who were turning against him. I'm sure they are all really glad they voted for Trump now.

Hey, something to talk about not named Trump! Two years from now we'll see the winners of the mid-term races sworn in, and two Dem senators won't be among them.
Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith’s (D) decision to not run for reelection in 2026 is adding another headache for Democrats trying to win back control of the Senate in two years.

Smith became the second Senate Democrat to announce their retirement in the past few weeks after Sen. Gary Peters (Mich.) also decided against seeking another term last month. Michigan is more solidly a battleground state than the Democratic-leaning Minnesota, which hasn’t elected a Republican senator in more than two decades.

It makes sense to announce it now, so that anyone interested can get their campaigns geared up.

I’ve seen Pete Buttigieg mentioned for Michigan and Tim Walz for Minnesota. That’s 2 guys I’d like to see in the Senate, and it seems like both would have a good chance of winning.

We will have elections. The question is whether or not any non-MAGAt can win any of them. I'm sure we'll have a whole panoply of "voting security" laws on the books before then.

Oh no! What a loss!!!

8-|
Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell announced on Thursday that he won’t seek reelection next year, ending a decadeslong tenure as a power broker who championed conservative causes but ultimately ceded ground to the fierce GOP populism of President Donald Trump.
