Re: The Political Junkie Thread
I just watched the House vote on the CR. No Democrat voted against it, but they clearly hung back before casting their votes in favor. The Dem votes dribbled in slowly while some GOP members were quick to vote Nay. Ultimately, Dem votes outnumbered GOP.
Johnson won and lost at the same time.

It's funny to think after the last few years that anyone in the GOP actually wants that job.

All these people are so power hungry. I am still waiting for Trump to threaten one of them with a primary opponent and for them to say "Good, I will do what is right and if I lose, so what. I will move on with my life, with my dignity at least partially intact and not genuflect to a pathetic loser with a mafia-complex like you."CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑December 21st, 2024, 9:23 amIt's funny to think after the last few years that anyone in the GOP actually wants that job.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
I saw a story somewhere in which Rand Paul floated Elon Musk as the Speaker of the House. However, my nephew sent me a screen shot of a post in which the orange guy posted, in all caps, “STOP CALLING HIM PRESIDENT MUSK!” I say we all keep it up. That could cause the bromance to end sooner rather than later. The felon doesn’t like people who take attention away from him.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑December 21st, 2024, 9:23 amIt's funny to think after the last few years that anyone in the GOP actually wants that job.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
This tech worker H1B discussion between Vivek, Elon and MAGA is a thing of beauty. I’ll be captain obvious and say this. Yes America needs more tech workers but America also needs people that pick fruit that build houses. The problem Vivek and Trump have is that they have just convinced a whole group of people that immigrants are bad. The absolute worse thing is Vivek saying that Americans are too lazy to be good engineers (paraphrasing). They just haven’t been very smart in handling this one. Will one of the tech bros get kicked out of the club because of this? Trump is very quiet.

Well, losing sucks, especially if it was on the cusp of becoming habitual. I'm quite sure we'll hear lots from her again, but thankfully it won't be from her own campaign trail.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/kari-lake-sa ... 06797.htmlKari Lake, a GOP Senate candidate in Arizona who lost her campaign against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) this past election cycle, said she will not seek political office again.

Get ready for some more Hakeem Jeffries Speaker nominations!

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/30/politics ... index.htmlHouse Speaker Mike Johnson faces a tough fight to retain the gavel even after an endorsement from Donald Trump, a test of the president-elect’s influence over his party amid the limits of an extraordinarily narrow majority.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
Let the shitshow begin (or I guess continue?). Republicans have a very narrow margin in the house and it will briefly be even narrower as Gaetz's seat is empty and the seats of Stefanik and someone else (blanking on who) will need to be filled when they take their jobs that were appointed by Trump. So I think it is 220-215 and could be down to 217-215 for a while. If a few other Republicans can't vote for whatever reason it could get really wacky. Good times.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑December 31st, 2024, 11:44 amGet ready for some more Hakeem Jeffries Speaker nominations!

It’s been more than a couple of weeks now since I haven’t watched CNN or even visited their website. The both siding of issues with MAGA people like Scott Jennings is disgusting.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑December 31st, 2024, 11:44 amGet ready for some more Hakeem Jeffries Speaker nominations!

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
I've literally not watched a minute of partisan "news" since election day. I'm enjoying the break.

I go to NYT.com for the games (connections, strands, spelling bee) and non-news so I bump into some things. But otherwise I have largely avoided the news. Ignorance is bliss.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑January 1st, 2025, 10:21 pmI've literally not watched a minute of partisan "news" since election day. I'm enjoying the break.

I’ve been waiting for his tiny little brain to figure this out. His response is completely predictable. How dare anyone interfere with the optics of HIS big day.

“Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it," Trump said. Among the many things I despise about him, a big one is how he acts like he is speaking for me. I want to see it. And I'm happy about it (not that I'm happy about Jimmy Carter dying, but I'm happy that he is being properly honored).ArkieDukie wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2025, 6:33 pmhttps://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-furiou ... 35880.html

So Jimmy Carter is someone else who is living rent free in Trump's miniscule brain.
I'm hoping for a rain storm/blizzard on Jan. 20. Lightning would be splendid.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
What is Hair Furor’s endgame with Greenland? Is it a distraction from his New York sentencing or from upcoming confirmation hearings? A way to demonstrate to Putin and Netanyahu that he has expansionist desires too? There has to be money in it for him … but where?
Re: The Political Junkie Thread
I was wondering the same thing. I know he had some thing about Greenland during his first term, and I'm not sure what he wants with it. Is it some huge oil reserve? I wouldn't be surprised if this was some pipe dream from his real estate days where somebody speculated that it was the future!.
I've been staying away because I don't need constant reminders that our country and to some extent the world will be turning further to crap in less than 2 weeks. I have family convinced that because nothing substantially changed for them from 2017-2020 (outside of covid) so they have the same expectation this go around. Our only hope is Trump's idea are so bad and his loyalists are so incompetent that they just arent able to do the terrible stuff they want to do. But we're not getting off scott free regardless.

I saw some references that there are a handful/bunch of billionaires/tech bros that would like to set up their own country. Some speculate this is part of that plan.
Other than that, I haven’t seen anything that makes sense. But perhaps there is no reason that makes sense.
