What I like best about Crazietalk.Net
Conversation on one of the threads earlier mentioned that the place over yonder locked (temporarily, at least) a thread that dealt with Michael Vick. Back in the old days, that would have annoyed me... but I rarely go over there any more, and am really pleased with how this board is working.
So here's the question:
Since coming to CTN, what is the one thing you like BEST about CTN?
For me, it's the general lack of insulting of one another (err, one another's posts). I no longer feel as though I am walking on eggshells.
What about you?
Cheers,
Lavabe

I understand the walking on egg shells and definitely feel uninhibited here. Additionally, the camaraderie that has developed along with the self regulation is pretty cool! Although we all vary in ages, we seem to be doing very well together playing in the same sand box!!!!! May I have that shovel now! ;)

I love that I got to enjoy both Lavabe's and Wilson's research adventures. Not sure that would have happened over yonder.
I also appreciate there aren't double standards here, there isn't a group of chosen ones.
Oh, and I love that the few times we have dabbled in something that would have been on the PPB, we've behaved ourselves and no one has written anything outlandish. Response have been very mature and civil.

Seriously, my favorite is just that we can all goof off and encourage each other's goofy tendencies as we please. Also that this is a group that really does know each other rather well, and that our respective personalities and roles in the "machine" mesh so well.

I agree with both of those. I do however hope that we continue to grow with fresh faces. There is a very refreshing feeling of freedom here, and I love how we handle matters openly. I would hope to think that attitude will breed membership.wilson wrote:I kind of like that I can insult you assholes without fear of getting in trouble.Lavabe wrote: For me, it's the general lack of insulting of one another (err, one another's posts). I like the fact that the people who post on this board act like adults and not adolescents, have a sense of humor, understand subtlety and know the difference between a conversation and an argument. I could say more, but will count to a hundred first!

Another great point is that we have some "adolescents" here who act more like adults than some adults.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:I like the fact that the people who post on this board act like adults and not adolescents, have a sense of humor, understand subtlety and know the difference between a conversation and an argument. I like the fact that every post here doesn't have to be filled with intelligent information. It's nice to be able to ask questions and get answers that aren't condescending. Some of us aren't quite as old or as experienced, so the tips and hints that the older members give out here can be really useful.
I also enjoy PW'ing and goofing off.

The community atmosphere.
Also, the fact that nobody here assumes someone was being snarky in a post. Here we assume someone was joking (because they almost always are) or that what they intended in a post just didn't translate well when typed out. We always give each other the benefit of the doubt. That used to happen over yonder but hasn't happened there for quite some time.

Have you ever tried to make a real life friend understand that your online friends are just as much a friend as a real life one? Or that you know someone you've never actually met in the flesh?

Yes. People who "get it" generally get it, if that makes any sense, and the people who know me best and are closest to me don't really give me a hard time about it.colchar wrote: Have you ever tried to make a real life friend understand that your online friends are just as much a friend as a real life one? How would we find people that would work here? I know most of my friends probably wouldn't be the best place for an internet forum such as this. :?colchar wrote:CameronBornAndBred wrote: I agree with both of those. Haha, we could have a recruiting/applying/screening process. Super-secret like. Heck, let's turn this into a Secret Society! I've always wanted to be in one. That's one reason why UVA interested me so much.

Get the front page up and running. I keep promising to do something, but haven't yet. My bad. I'm rectifying that tonight and taking names for assistance. We have a big suggestion thread to go through also.colchar wrote:CameronBornAndBred wrote: I agree with both of those. I do however hope that we continue to grow with fresh faces. I like the fact that, although responses don't have to be, they still can be filled with intelligent information if needed. We have some very intelligent people here with a wide range of knowledge in some very diverse areas. Some are well credentialed. Others have years of experience. Others are just starting out but can teach even those with more experience some new things. You get what I mean - posts don't have to be overly intelligent but, if required, we can take a break from goofing off, impart some knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, and then just as easily go right back to goofing off. Which reminds me - I was supposed to PM Wilson about his research a while ago and completely forgot to get around to that. Sorry bro...I'll get on that this week.
