The Coming And Going Thread
Here's a thread that will never die. Applies to all sports, but we'll kick it off with some good basketball news.
Tyrese Proctor is coming back.
I'll easily forget a One and Done in a few years, but if a guy gives me at least two years to cheer him on, I'm in his camp!

Outstanding news, and pretty much instantly makes our team a contender. Like every other team on the planet, we really need an accomplished point guard. It's wonderful to know that we have one. And given his rate of improvement over the course of the season, it's hard to believe that his play next year won't be even better.

In the "Not So Good News" department, Shayeann Day-Wilson is transferring. She was the ACC Freshman of the Year in her first year, but last year, while a valuable member of the team, didn't come close to matching her first year self.
A sizeable loss, but such is college sports these days.

Re: The Coming And Going Thread
And quickly in "The Good News" department once again, Celeste Taylor is coming back for her 5th year!!!
"What an amazing two years it has been to be a part of the Duke community. Throughout this journey, I have felt nothing but support from everyone around me," Taylor said. "The best part about Duke is the standard of excellence to which everyone is held. Not only does it teach you how to meet the standard, but it reminds you of the potential you have. The sky is far from the limit. I wouldn't want to spend my final years of college basketball anywhere else. It has been great to help revitalize the tradition that is Duke Women's Basketball. The first day I stepped foot on campus I wore a shirt that said Leave a Legacy. That's what I intend to do. I believe I am not quite done yet. I will be playing my final year of college basketball at Duke University."
"This is a great day for our program! Celeste embodies everything you want in a player and competitor," said head coach Kara Lawson. "I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to coach her another season. She has won over the entire Duke community with her effort, leadership and character. She uplifts everyone around her. The example she sets every day changes our team. We have our leader back. Go Duke!"

Bye.
Another OAD that I will barely remember in three years. Not knocking him, just the system. Hopefully what Coach Scheyer has said about recruiting less freshmen is true; we'll find out in the next couple seasons.

Re: The Coming And Going Thread
Of the 5 guys coming in for the 23-24 season, only one (Mgbako) is a top 10 recruit and the remainder are scattered from about 12-30. However, they might all think they're NBA draft-worthy after 1 year. Who knows?CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑March 29th, 2023, 10:57 amBye.

Yay!!!
How long has it been since we've had a team starting off with some experience?! An ACC Championship team, no less!

Re: The Coming And Going Thread
For next season, an experienced sophomore starting at PG and another at the 3/4 spot. Yes, please! Great news!! One more returnee would be fabulous though I'm not counting on either Lively or Flip being at Duke for the 23-24 campaign.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑March 30th, 2023, 12:33 pmYay!!!

An FYI, Flip won Freshman of the Year today. In my head he's way gone, and probably should be.devildeac wrote: ↑March 30th, 2023, 12:37 pmFor next season, an experienced sophomore starting at PG and another at the 3/4 spot. Yes, please! I hope you are correct. To me, he would greatly improve his stock by gaining some strength. Tennessee bullied him too much.

Going, going, gone; Dereck Lively. Can't blame him; father died when he was 8 and his Mom had a cancer diagnosis several years ago and he used his first "job" money to buy her a house. Hope he has a long, financially rewarding career. I think he'll struggle to start.

Re: The Coming And Going Thread
I agree with your thought about his starting opportunities. Didn't make any sense to stay at Duke, though.devildeac wrote: ↑April 4th, 2023, 2:49 pmGoing, going, gone; Dereck Lively.
