https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... 0295907e28According to Mike Evans, a former member of Trump Evangelical advisory board, "All of us knew that Trump had character flaws, but we considered our relationship with him transactional. We wanted Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe v. Wade. We wanted his support of our biblical values. We all wanted his support for the State of Israel. Donald Trump indeed kept and exceeded his promises to us.”
However, he added, "Donald Trump can’t save America. He can’t even save himself. He used us to win the White House. We had to close our mouths and eyes when he said things that horrified us. I cannot do that anymore.”

Trump is losing a big part of his base, the evangelicals. It's basically "We got we wanted out of you, so bye."

Well, rats. I wanted a long, drawn-out, full-fledged schism. If they throw the guy to the wolves too quickly, we're likely to end up with a strong candidate who'll be a bit smarter about how they rig things.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑November 18th, 2022, 11:36 amTrump is losing a big part of his base, the evangelicals. And we get a Special Counsel. There is no doubting Merrick Garland's determination to Do The Right Thing. He'd have been one hell of Justice.

Boberry's opponent has conceded, even though he's only 531 votes behind and within the automatic recount zone.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
What happens when DJT isn't the GOP nominee?
That would be absolutely fabulous.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... d67275b604Republican insiders who spoke with Semafor say they can't rule out the possibility that Trump would completely sabotage the party by launching an independent candidacy, with former RNC official Michael Short likening it to a "hostage situation."
The publication notes that Trump teased potentially running as a third-party candidate in 2016, which he boasted gave him "leverage" over the party as a whole.
That would be absolutely fabulous.

Re: The Political Junkie Thread
I think it would be a bluff. The amount of grass roots organization (and amount of money) needed to get on the ballot for all 50 states is daunting. Trump would have to co-opt the Libertarians or some other existing party I think, and Trump ain’t no Libertarian.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2022, 10:15 amWhat happens when DJT isn't the GOP nominee?

Absolutely agree that it is a hostage situation. Never play chicken with a guy who wants to wreck the cars.

For the average candidate, yes. Not for Trump.

Maybe, maybe not. 50 different processes, 50 different deadlines. It is a massive coordination effort that has to be started well in advance of those deadlines.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2022, 12:59 pmFor the average candidate, yes. Not for Trump.
Ross Perot had extremely experienced campaign managers and started well in advance IIRC. I’m not sure Trump would go through the real work needed and spend the real monies needed. Maybe. Maybe not.

It would take an effort, for sure, but he's got an army of fanatics at his beck and call. They'll sign anything and donate. Maybe that will change as we get deeper into the election cycle and some of the cultists become enlightened.OPK wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2022, 1:13 pmMaybe, maybe not. 50 different processes, 50 different deadlines. I don't think Trump will do anything that won't benefit Trump, and he seems to be surprisingly objective about analyzing what that is. I don't think sabotaging the Republican party would be in that bucket, so I don't think he'd bother. He'll stay in the race for as long as he can extract money, but once it looks like it's actually going to cost him, he'll be out.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2022, 3:05 pmIt would take an effort, for sure, but he's got an army of fanatics at his beck and call. Inevitably one of his hacks would botch the process in some state and he would be ruled ineligible. Then he would file a bunch of law suits and say the people in that state are out to get him, even if it is the reddest state out there. Then his people will start threatening election officials in that state. So much fun.OPK wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2022, 1:13 pmMaybe, maybe not. 50 different processes, 50 different deadlines. Just read that three judges in ATL, two of whom Trump appointed, are likely to rule that the judge in Florida is a moron (despite her Duke degree) and the Mar-A-Lago docs investigation doesn't need a master so can move forward more quickly. And the Supreme Court finally ruled that his taxes can be released. Granted, that one took forever and the house panel will be disbanded shortly, but better late than never. Glad that the Trump appointees are actually doing their jobs, though this is all pretty low hanging fruit.

Just got put in the penalty box OY for two days for saying Kari Lake lives in Crazy Town. But Wheat can consistently make stuff up (speaking of Crazy Town) and they embrace him. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who traffics in election denialism is a traitor to our country. Trump opened a huge can of worms and it cannot be reversed.

Does Trump have a campaign manager? Has he/she quit yet?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... 1e2e9b6916Donald Trump reportedly “dined and conversed” with infamous white nationalist Nick Fuentes at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach on Tuesday.
Trump’s encounter with the openly racist Fuentes – who was in the company of disgraced rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye – came one week after the former US president declared his 2024 campaign.
