It won't be hot at 12:00, so there's that.

Quoted from the M&A thread. So I did a test run tonight with the generator. The running watts on it are rated for 1600, and the air fryer at max (which I'll be doing for the fries) is 1700w. Still, having faith in that people always are a little on the less-than-lenient side when rating such things, I gave it a test run.Previously we've toted out the oil fryer, which since I may be showing up to this game solo for, is impossible to do for this one. But I've got an answer for that! I'll be bringing in a 2nd generator to run my air fryer, so either fries on the side, or in your sandwich ( ), will be available.
The generator is an inverter, and thus normally runs fairly quietly when under low load. With that said, these will be the loudest french fries you ever ate...but they'll be crispy!

120 VAC X 15 Amps = 1800 Watts, without allowing for line losses in your power cord, which heats up (due to line resistance) as the power flows through it. Heat in the cord is lost power. Don't use a longer line cord than you need because that's extra resistance. Be sure to use a heavy duty line cord, rated for at least 15 amps, preferably more, to reduce the loss.
It's like your neighbor who strings up 1000's of Christmas lights and tries to run them all off of one 15 amp circuit. It'll blow the circuit breaker or burn down his house!

Thanks to hurricanes, we are very familiar with what generators will run. I bought this one so Julie's mom, who is stubborn about getting one, and will not be able to say no when I come over to keep her TV and few other things running.OZZIE4DUKE wrote: ↑October 29th, 2021, 4:23 pmBe sure to use a heavy duty line cord, rated for at least 15 amps, preferably more, to reduce the loss.
For our own house, we've got a much heavier duty 4,500w. (Which unlike the one I'll be using at tailgate, isn't very portable.)
There will be no "line cord". The only thing plugged into it will be the air fryer.

I'm going to be posting some thoughts later tonight, especially in light of our lovely game earlier today.
I'm not posting them now, because ultimately they will be very enlightening thoughts, and right now, my brain isn't so enlightened. But stay tuned...there is a reason that all of us choose to spend a few choice Saturdays together.

Thoughts on Duke's dismal turnaround, and on tailgating.
Good lord, Coach Cutcliffe has sadly allowed his program to completely revert to the days of yore. That Charlotte game is looking far more like a predictor for the season than I could have imagined. I assumed we'd lose a few, but I did not in any way see the blowouts coming that Duke has been part of these last two games. And now, that same blowout participation team has to come back and play in front of a home crowd, which will likely be a very small group of fans.
With that being said, thankfully many of us under our tailgate tents remember our humble beginnings, huddled around TNT's box TV set in the back of his pickup truck, and his Webber grill, tent free, in the B5 lot. Just as this game will be this weekend, almost all of them were kickoffs before 1PM. The team sucked. Like zero wins sucked. And we still showed up. Like, LOTS of us showed up at those tailgates.
Thankfully for our group, while it's football that brings us together, it's our comradery that makes our gatherings what they are, regardless of what is happening in the stadium.
Hopefully Dr. King makes a move in the very near future, and at the very least at the end of the season. If she doesn't, Duke won't be selling a single new season ticket, and of course will be losing many, many renewals.
However, I'll still be there. Without the hope watching a brand new team on the field, I doubt I'll be going in to as many, but I sure will be under the tent and behind the grill, still enjoying the wonderful company of our group of friends.
So here's to hoping Nina makes that necessary change, and as always, LET'S GO DUKE!!!

If it was up to OzNina, it would be so. Hopefully Nina King agrees.

Current count for sammich bread so far.
One loaf of honey whole wheat
One loaf of classic white
Two loaves of walnut wheat
Each loaf yields 8 large slices, looking to bring between 6-8 total. (Depends on how many slices Julie steals from me. )

Yep. Buying one loaf of sourdough, and one loaf of rye.
Sourdough requires a starter which I don't have, and rye/pumpernickel require rye flour which of course isn't sold commonly in stores.

Well I took one last run today to see what I could find from the two last stores in town I hadn't checked, and miraculously, Publix came through! So I got three bags of rye flour, and the first loaf of rye is under way. Totally curious to see how it turns out.

Green family home in Virginia. Big thanks to Chris for hosting another great tailgate. Even though we lost, we competed so watching the game was enjoyable.
