Duke Vs. Northwestern (23), 12:30 kickoff

Interesting that we're slightly favored even though we're not ranked. Hope Cut's guys TCB and vault us into the top 25 in the next poll.

I'm very interested to see how our defense performs against NW's offense. Northwestern's freshman QB looked good against Stanford, and he has running ability similar to Sirk.

In 2013, our defense gave up 14 total points through the first two games of the season. In the next three games against GT, Pitt, and Troy, our defense gave up an average of 41 points per game. I understand our defense is different this year. Much more speed, and a dominant all-american in Jeremy. But I am going to refrain from getting too excited about our defense until after these next two games. Will our young defensive line/linebackers be able to hold up against one of the best running backs in the big 10?? We will see!

I agree, I thought it was a very crowded game for an opener. First half was an awesome game experience. Hopefully there is a good turn out for Northwestern on Saturday.

This next game will tell the tale. Not against a team from Durham, and not employee day, however we have beautiful weather expected and we are playing against a ranked team.

My concerns:

1. Northwestern's short passing game. NCCU gave us a little trouble early with good execution on short pass plays.
2. Limiting success of running back Justin Jackson.
3. Pressuring/containing quarterback Clayton Thorson. His ability to scramble is a weapon.

For Duke, I believe our superior speed and special teams play will be the difference makers. Look for Coach Cutcliffe to open up the playbook and utilize sets and plays Northwestern has not seen on film.

We will be wearing one of our more classic uniform combinations this Saturday. Blue helmets, Blue jerseys, and White pants. This has been a traditional combination under Cutcliffe, and we sported this look in the home opener last year against Elon. That game was a 52-13 win; hopefully we see another result like that

Quarterback Thomas Sirk finished the afternoon 24-of-39 for 150 yards passing, an oddly low total without any context. A maddeningly high amount screens and dump-offs explain his day. Whether it was a byproduct of play-calling or Sirk's inability to consistently find deeper options was left to interpretation as Cutcliffe declined to pinpoint the issue without seeing the game film first.
