Trivia question

Post by wilson » July 28th, 2009, 8:34 pm

This evening's AFLAC trivia question on the Braves telecast was the following:

Hanley Ramirez is currently leading the National League in batting average.
Who was the last shortstop to win the NL batting title?

Highlight for a hint:
Why would I be asking this question on this board?

Nearly 50 years late (and Sanchez is a 2B anyway), but on the right track in a certain sense...

A Milwaukee Braves player? Did Eddie Matthews play short?

You were closer temporally, but as I noted above, Ben63 was closer in a different way.

Okay, that was awful that I missed that. I recall a discussion or two of him at that other site.

Dick Groat?
Oh, Zeller wishes he could be as good as Zoubek.

I'm assuming Dick Groat because of the Pirates reference. I originally thought this but it seemed too easy. So I went with Sanchez because he plays for Pittsburgh.

Ding ding ding. He won the batting title in 1960. Ben63 was close in a way because Freddy Sanchez also plays for the Pirates. And if you scrolled over my hint, it asked why I'd ask that question on this board. Knowing the answer, I'm assuming you can all put 2 and 2 together.

Actually, I just guessed. I figured it had to be a Duke player of some time, and Dick Groat was the only baseball player I actually knew.
