I had court all afternoon so the fancy dinner won't be until Friday night.

You get to spread out your celebration by having the fancy dinner on Friday night. Making the birthday last longer is always a good goal.lawgrad91 wrote:I was a Christmas surprise, I think.CathyCA wrote:I hope you had fun today.

Belated birthday wishes. I hope court presented you with a few chuckles yesterday and that you have a wonderful bday dinner on Friday.

Apparently I missed all the chuckles yesterday. Randy the Genius said he had a defendant jumping up and down and possibly dancing, but I had come back to the office before then.DukieInKansas wrote:Belated birthday wishes. A dancing Defendant in Court? I dare one of my clients to do that especially if it's in response to getting out of their charge... I'd pull a Luke Kuechly on them (we teach humility here)!

Apparently it was DURING the case. He was apparently trying to show the judge how he'd knocked his Dr. Pepper in the opposite direction from the babymama's car and couldn't have busted out her window with it, despite the fact that when the police showed up her car window was busted and the door had carbonated beverage dripping of of it.chipslate wrote:A dancing Defendant in Court? Re: Happy Birthday LawGrad!
Today in court, we had a defendant who called the bailiff who confiscated his ringing telephone an "asshole."
The bailiff sat him in the penalty box for a while. Then the (newly elected) judge called the defendant up for a hearing on the contempt of court charge. The defendant denied calling the bailiff that name. The judge said, "I heard you say it," and he gave him FIVE DAYS in jail for contempt of court.
Then, the defendant protested saying, "Can I do the time on weekends? I have to go to work tomorrow."
The judge said, "I'm so sorry that you are going to need to make other arrangements these next five days."
Wow! Welcome to district court, judge!

Geez. The nuttiest person in the Varnish Zone this morning called the judge "pathetic" and gigged the officer.
She won't have to meal plan for a few days.

Somebody else called the judge, "Boss," this morning. Our newly elected judge didn't take too kindly to that, either.
