Skype / Google Hangout for Tailgates?

Skype / Google Hangout for Tailgates?
I've been brainstorming about potentially setting up a laptop / webcam at the tailgate to feature being logged in to Section 21 as well as Skype / Google Hangout where anyone could 'dial in' or connect for a live interactive feed of the tailgate. I know LG has used facetime to feature Awhom and IowaDevil at previous tailgates and it was pretty cool. The small vacant table under the tent with the television I thought would be a good spot for the setup as there's constant people traffic through there. I've unlimited 4G data on my cellphone I'd use as the hotpot and I'd certainly test everything before actually setting it up there, but is there any interest in this?

I'm game and would be the first one on there! It's the next best thing for sure!

That's a great idea. It would be fun for others to be included.

It's amazing that nobody has thought of that until now. Guess everybody's been too busy eating and drinking!

Ahh Virtual Food... where's the Star Trek replicator when you need it?
I'm confident in everything except the internet connection.... in theory my 4G as a hotspot should work fine but in case it's not does anyone know if Duke has campus wide wi-fi? and if that answer is yes, then does anyone have a login we can use (read: Native!?!?)
I'll give it the old "college try" this Saturday and I'll probably start with Google Hangouts. My google email / id is chipslate@gmail.com and I'll turn it on as soon as we get there and set it up (hopefully between 9:30-10am on Saturday).
Keep your fingers crossed!

Update: I hope to have the Google hangout started by 10am so that the Camera can catch the Walk. Send an email to my google account: chipslate@gmail.com if you want me to send you an invite directly once it's set up. If there are technical difficulties the morning of or if you're having issues, I'll be checking this thread regularly that morning.

If there is wifi capability in the parking lot, and I suspect there is for K-ville, you don't need a Duke ID as you can log into as Guest.chipslate wrote:Ahh Virtual Food... where's the Star Trek replicator when you need it?

That is great info Tilly! The internet connection funneling through my cell phone is my only technical worry. Guest access Wi-Fi would cure that

Guest WiFi access worked like a charm. I'll bring the laptop for every coming home game as long as interest continues.

Re: Skype / Google Hangout for Tailgates?
I was very pleased the 'remote tailgate' worked so well... Duke's visitor wifi worked like a charm. I encourage everyone who may want to attend 'remotely' to a tailgate in the future to go ahead and email me so I can add you to the google+ circle I have for the tailgate, it makes it very easy and quick to invite everyone at the same time once the laptop is set up.
I'll be setup before the walk next week (shooting for noon) and also plan on bringing an extension for the webcam so that the camera can be setup on the upper part of the tent (sorry ladies, no more butt-cam lol)
Thanks for participating! I don't know of any other tailgate that's as 'pimp' as ours all around!
