I like San Antonio and would like to go back some day. I cannot imagine it is the 8th largest city in the US. Maybe the 8th largest in Texas.

Both wikipedia and infoplease say that San Antonio nosed out San Diego in the 2010 census to become the seventh biggest city in the US.

As Windsor noted Atlanta, viewed as an MSAs gets you to a very different place. For example, San Antonio is the seventh largest city, but San Antonio and surrounding is the 24th largest Metropolitan Statistical area(doesn't include Austin). Basically, the suburbs around San Antonio are small, the city of San Antonio has annexed most of the area. Atlanta has numerous large suburbs with their own governments, etc.

In insurance, we spend a lot of time looking at this as well as DMA(Direct Marketing Areas) for when we buy ad time, etc. DMAs give you different answers...and then you start looking at purchased air time which gives yet another answer.

Hailing from NY, I knew what brisket was...although we do cook it a little differently then they do in San Antonio

I'll admit that with 17 years spent between NC(13) and TN(4) that BBQ to me means pulled pork. But after having brisket again on Thursday, I'm warming up to the idea of calling it BBQ also.

My Hungarian born grandmother made kalaches...I expect we are not talking about the same thing - unless you mean a sweet pastry of slavic/czech/hungarian origins.

We have a huge czech population here and they have kalache events! Love 'em and there is definitely a difference between those and what the Texans call kalaches! I do have to admit they are pretty tasty too but need a much different name!

My daughter in law is of Mexican descent. Going to have to have her fix me some kalaches next time we are in San Antonio. She says the Mexican food they serve in Richmond, VA where we currently reside is not Mexican but Mexican wannabe. She makes a great breakfast taco. Now I'm hungry.
