My mother moved to sub acute care (skilled nursing) on Monday. All went well until Wednesday when episodes of paranoia associated with dementia began to occur. She's been having a pretty rough time since as have the rest of us trying to help and support her. I'm going to carry on with the tailgate party and game tomorrow... a break from the sadness and stress is needed!

I am sorry to hear this. I have lived through the kind of episode you describe with my mother in law and grandmother (who have both since passed away). Sending strength and patience vibes in massive quantities. Please remember to take care of yourself and step back from time to time for your own sanity (two thumbs up to the tailgate!)

I'm so sorry for the set back, so to speak, DITBD. I hope the tailgate will give you some relief to the stress. Hopefully Duke will win making the whole day an awesome experience.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:My mother moved to sub acute care (skilled nursing) on Monday. Re: CTN vibes for Devil in the Blue Dress Mom
There seem to be an awful lot of us in this same boat.
My mother is in a nursing home with dementia (NPH actually), has had falls, broken pelvis, the works. She's been very brave but it's very, very sad. Her 90th birthday is next week. We won't do much to celebrate since she's outlived her friends and the only thing she enjoys is her TV, chocolate, and naps. I'm sure she's suffering from depression as well, but there is really no way to tell since she isn't very responsive.
I think we're all just living too long these days and that's just no fun. My heart goes out to all of you who are worrying over an aged parent as well as our own children who will probably have no choice but to do the same for us.
Thank goodness for the invaluable uplift and energy and temporary distraction our Duke teams give us. I wish there were some way to convey to this to these marvelous kids how important they are to all of us. They can't possibly imagine. Bless their hearts.
Go Duke forever!
Love, Ima

My mom is still experiencing some memory loss, and her surgery was without general anesthesia. This seems to be something worthy of question.
Best wishes for all of our elderly parents...and for us!

Re: CTN vibes for Devil in the Blue Dress Mom
DitBD - you and your mother are still in my prayers. I think watching a parent age is one of life's most difficult challenges. Remember to look after yourself. It is ok to laugh at some of the things that happen. I know with Dad, it was either laugh or cry so I opted for laughter. (One hospital stay, he thought he was in an airport and flying home from Argentina. I finally figured out the airport connection but never did figure out Argentina.)
Enjoy the game tonight - and cheer once or twice for me, please.

Wonderful news today! Mom passed the swallow study with flying colors! She's having real food tonight for supper (soft such as mashed potatoes) for the first time since July 15.
