Tour de France 2012

Post by Lavabe » July 7th, 2012, 11:39 pm

A bizarre opening week this year, mostly due to the numerous crashes in the last 3 km of each race.
The tour started with a fairly nondescript time trial, which gave Cancellara the yellow jersey all week. Last year's sprinting force, Mark Cavendish, does not have the same leadout train that he did last year. Sagan seems to have good support this year, as he has won 3 times this week. Andre Greipel has also sprinted well.
The race for the yellow jersey heated up today with the first real climb. The end of the race was a spectacular climb, with Cadel Evans up against Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome. Froome responded to Evans's challenge, and won the race. All three finished with the same time, giving the yellow jersey to Wiggins. Alpine races are coming up starting tomorrow.
WAY too many crashes this first week, and WAY too many people dropping out from these crashes.
Rumors surfaced earlier this week about who might have struck a deal to testify against Lance Armstrong. REALLY hope the runors are not true.
2014, 2011, and 2009 Lemur Loving CTN NASCAR Champ. No lasers were used to win these titles.

Today's crash putting Samuel Sanchez, defending Olympic champion, out was really strange. It may put him out of the Olympics, as well.

Very bizarre crashes so far this year. Yesterday's at 25K out was horrible - took so many out.

I'm not sure the Dutch paper is accurate. Vaughters, one of those supposed witnesses, said it wasn't true. We'll see what happens. I predict that like all the past cases, nothing comes of this.
Life is good!
