Hoping Mason Stays (Hoping may cease, he's staying!)

Post by CameronBornAndBred » March 22nd, 2012, 8:05 am

I do hope he stays, I'd love to see him play with Marshall. Plus I'm greedy and selfish, so he needs to stay for that reason alone.
But he's thinking things over.
“He is taking his time, doing some soul searching and gathering quality information with which to make an informed decision about his future,” said Perky Plumlee, Mason’s father. “The Duke staff is fully supportive and wants the best for Mason.”

Yeah, I am also greedy and selfish so I'm hoping Mason comes back. In other Duke BB news, Coach K went to Miller Grove HS today and visited with Tony Parker.

I'm greedy, selfish, sentimental AND practical. He needs another year to learn how/when to (not) dribble. A 10-15 foot jumper might be a good idea, too 8-| .

What the hell? They're saying on the radio that we lost Mason yesterday. Is that true, or are these guys smoking something?

Parker has always been lukewarm on Duke..the fact that K went there yesterdays smells like trouble in Plumleeville.

Yesterday Bleacher Report said that Jason Williams (he will always be JASON to me) tweeted that Mason was going pro, but I haven't seen anything else about that, and it hasn't been on ESPN.

Jason Williams jumped the gun. Mason is in the gathering information stage and has not made a decision.

I certainly would like to see Mason stay and finish college, since he is a double major and All Academic. He certainly could use another year to develop his skill set. The NBA draft will be loaded with BIG GUYS. Thomas Robinson from Kansas, Anthony Davis from Kentucky, Tyler Zeller from Unc and maybe Cody Zeller from Indiana, Kidd-Gilchrist from Kentucky, and so on.

Hopefully, Miles will get picked up in the Nba somewhere or abroad. Miles and Mason, always National Champions! :happy-bouncyblue: :duke:

Sullinger declared for the draft today...he's a likely Top 10 pick.

BTW, I don't think this has anything to do with whether or not Mason stays.

There is a statement in one of the articles linked on the front page that I hate, but it rings very true...
Unlike Leslie, Plumlee is much closer to reaching his ceiling. As he proved by going 9 for 9 from the floor while scoring 19 points with 12 rebounds and three blocks in the Blue Devils’ NCAA tournament loss to Lehigh last month, he has the skills to be a dominant low post presence. He’s just never been able to do it on a consistent basis.
Returning to Duke for his senior season would give the 6-11 center an opportunity to change that perception. Then again, as former teammate Kyle Singler learned, draft stock can drop just as easily as it can rise.
If Plumlee is projected to be safely entrenched in the middle of the first round, where many mock drafts have him, then it wouldn’t make sense for him to leave millions of dollars on the table to return to Duke and play for free.
http://acc.blogs.starnewsonline.com/29781/29781/

There is another thought in there that I wonder about..
The fact is that the decision to stay or go is a highly personal one that has little or nothing to do with whether the player is physically ready to handle the rigors of NBA competition. Two-thirds of those who enter the draft as underclassmen, including the three newest former Tar Heels, still have holes in their game that can only be filled by another season or two in college.
Well is that really true? I mean if you have holes in your game now, and you decide to go make the money, who's to say you can't improve just as well by playing tough in practice in the NBA? Or elect to go to the D-League AFTER being drafted? Hell, then you'd be making your money and be getting lots of minutes, as opposed to either making your money and sitting on the bench or making no money and playing lots of minutes. And then of course there is the Europe option. The thought that a player can only improve by being in college is so common it's cliche, but is it actually true?

A player can improve staying at the collegiate level and from moving on up. I feel the odds are more in favor at the lower level, especially at Duke, because he is learning from a teaching staff. Teachers have a better ability to communicate so that the student understands what is being taught. And, this is more geared to general knowledge of the game. At pro levels, it becomes more technically instructional toward the case of individual versus individual. This latter fact is what really pushes me to believe that it's far too early for Rivers to jump up. Mason would be in a more adaptable position for taking the plunge upward.
:sigh: After saying all that, I hope he stays.

Where Mason goes all depends on who you listen to. I've seen him in the bottom of the first round of a few mock drafts, but will confess I'm no expert on whose mock draft tends to pan out, etc.
