Personally, I go for prescription strength codeine cough syrup when I have a bad cough. Last time I had one, my doctor/golf partner prescribed the "big boy stuff" - Tussionex, or Tussi for short. It lasts 12 hours so you can sleep through the night or get through the day on one dose. No generic available, I believe it had a $50 copay, but it was worth it! And as they say, don't drive or use heavy machinery when you take it... Earljam would love it ;)

Tip for potential shoplifters: when caught attempting to steal, it may seem smart to leave the premises, but in most cases it isn't. If you do leave the premises, it is REALLY STUPID to leave your government-issued photo ID. (This is the same clerk that, in my earlier case, identified the stolen shoes on the defendant's feet at his trial for the shoe theft. One would think our crooks would know by now not to steal at that shoe store.)
