I just made a wasted trip to Houston. I need to get a passport and looked online to get a list of facilities with Saturday hours. The closest passport facility with Saturday hours is the library in downtown Houston. A requirement for reservations was not listed, so I gathered my information together and made the trek into Houston. After driving around a bit (my GPS is broken), I found the post office and the passport office. The people in the line outside informed me that you have to be there at 6:30 a.m. to sign up, and there are only 10 slots available. All slots were taken.

Now, it's fine if they want to have this policy, but shouldn't they say on the website that this is their policy?
I came back from Houston and got the Asshats in trouble at the leasing office.

Signs that my new colleagues are my kind of people (all from Friday):
1. Colleague #1 uses "ass" as a modifier when describing our instrumentation.
2. When brainstorming a list of "things to do when stuck in an elevator," Colleague #2 suggested making the maintenance people sing "Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty."
3. One of my raisons d'etre at the new job is finding a particular protein modification associated with inflammation response. I was able to do that on Friday (chemically generated, but proof of principle). When Colleague #2 asked Colleague #3 if he'd like to see a spectrum for a modified peptide, he said, "You realize that comment is like foreplay to me, right?" If I had been drinking anything at the time, it would've been sprayed across the room.

I need to go grocery shopping today. Yellow sports drink is on my shopping list. I already have window cleaner with ammonia.

For you bacon lovers out there. Here's a picture of bacon (a LOT of bacon!) waiting to be cured at Johnston County Hams in Smithfield.

They are a customer for one of my products, and soon to be multiple products. The black filter bags on the wall of their cooler are mine - they reduce humidity in the coolers to prevent condensation and icing, and since dry air is easier to cool than moist air, they save money on their (electrical) refrigeration costs. The filters also reduce odors, acids and bacteria in the air.

After a week of very nice even excessively warm weather, we have settled down to more normal weather patterns here. So instead of 70's were in the low 60's with intermittent thunderstorms.
