My dad, the original Ozzie, was taken to the hospital earlier today from the nursing home. My mom was there feeding him lunch, as usual, when he threw up the food and got the chills/shivers and a fever. Just spoke with the ER doctor, and it's not good. He's got pneumonia, a UTI, atrial fibrillation, low O2, elevated enzymes and white cell count. The doctor also mentioned advanced dementia, but that's been the case for 2 years. He's 97 11/12's, April 1st will be his 98th birthday. He's on several antibiotics and oxygen, and is (obviously) being admitted to the hospital.

Unless he makes a remarkable (progress towards) recovery overnight and is doing (much) better in the morning, I'll drive down tomorrow. If he's going to go, I hope he goes quickly. He's had a great, long life, and has been a great dad and husband to my mom - April 8th will be their 62nd anniversary, and she's been a real trouper, going to the nursing home twice (almost) every day to feed him lunch and dinner, as she was doing today at lunchtime. Yesterday he appeared "normal" for him and until he threw up this afternoon nobody knew anything was wrong. Sadness and tears are setting in as I type this, but if it's time, I'm OK with that.

Vibes, hugs & prayers to you and your family! We too admitted my Dad to the hospital today with much the same symptoms minus the dementia and a few less years (93). He's in AZ and it's tough having them that far away and am also on travel hold. Be safe if you need to go.

Thanks all. Probably going in the morning - I'll call the nurse's station early to get an update on his condition. I'll probably post before I leave. The doctor doesn't expect him to survive, but they don't know my dad... ;)

Thanks again for all the vibes. So far, they are doing their usual powerful job! Got to town about 10 pm after a 13 hour drive and went straight to the hospital to see my dad. He's sleeping/sedated, but his color looked good and doesn't have a fever this evening. He is obviously responding to the antibiotics. We're at my mom's condo now, and boy, after we chill for a little while, will hit the sack.
