Medical Question

Post by EarlJam » February 23rd, 2012, 9:58 am

If you get a dull, rolling quite substantial pain in your abdomen that feels like someone is wringing your innards like ringing out a soaked bath towel, and you can even feel it at the base of your teeth and jaw, um, does that mean anything?

It means you need to call the doctor.

If it's your gall bladder, let me know and maybe you and B can get a quantity discount, if you don't mind coming to Greensboro for surgery.

Or the satisfactory results of Windsor's "Pain Spell" for defying her.

Does the pain occur within an hour or two of eating? Does it feel as if it goes across your body just above the waist, but seems to begin in the front right side? Does it occur suddenly and fiercely?

Yes to any or all of those questions could indicate gallstones. There's a quick, painless ultrasound test your doctor can schedule to answer this question. If your doctor recommends removal of the gallbladder, you can schedule it to allow you maximum time in front of the TV during March Madness.... I did! ;;)

I guess that's why Bruce's is scheduled on the 7th, so he can stay home the entire weekend of the ACC Tournament.

A little higher than the waist. More like where the liver is (or where I think it is (below sternum, across the body?). Chest doesn't hurt. Not hard to breathe. But the pain goes across the body and it's very dull, rolling, like if your organs were a towel and someone was twisting it. The pain came into my jaw and teeth (lower), and it was bad enough for about ten minutes to where I couldn't do anything. Nothing since this morning.

It WAS about an hour after eating, so that's interesting.

Hmmmm.

Well, if I suddenly drop off the face of the Earth, you'll know there's been some kind of biological "event."

I got a badly ruptured disk in my back in 2006 and had surgery late February. Was out of work (with pay), on my back with a 24/7 supply of narcotics for a month, and through April. It was AWESOME. The ACC Tourney, the NCAA tourney. Only sucked when Duke loss to LSU. I'd do it again in a heartbeat in exchange for a shitty gall bladder.

What you've described sounds like much of what I remember from the bouts I had.

I'd say you should make an appointment with your doctor and sort this out. If it's your gallbladder, the pain can continue to get worse without any warning. I began to have pain so unpredictably that I had to do something! My mother put it off. She had to go in on an emergency basis for an severely infected gallbladder... with potential complications similar to that for appendicitis. Get ahead of the curve. If it's your gallbladder, it's better to be able to schedule treatment on your terms instead of as an emergency.

I don't like the pain radiating to the jaw. Heart problems, which I seriously doubt you have, can present with jaw pain. I will feel better if you get an EKG to be double-damn sure the ticker is okay.

Hey Ima, thank you for asking. I did not go see a doc because it hasn't happened since that time. If it pops up a couple more times, I will certainly go, as it WAS odd and quite painful.

I've had the pain before (a couple of years ago). It seemed to happen on and off for a few days then go away. Maybe just a stomach thing. I don't know. But when it was going on, I was paralyzed, and couldn't do a damn thing. Pretty scary actually.

I'll stay on top of it. Again, thanks for asking.

Gallbladder pain comes on like that..... comes and goes. Having lived with that very problem, I'd say check it out sooner rather than later. ;;)
