Clemson - It Went a LittleJohn Like This

Duke Beats Tigerzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Marietta, GA -- EarlJam's Recliner - I sat down in my chair, sore from a bunch of tennis, to watch Duke play the Clemson Tigers in always-tough LittleJohn Colusiem. I've always had a difficult time spelling the word "colusiem." Did I get it right this time? Anyway, Duke won by about eight, and pushed its record to 3-0 in the ACC, 15-2 overall. The victory, following FSU's total ASS-DOWN of unc on Saturday gives the Blue Devils the outright early lead in the ACC. Sidenote message to five unc walk ons: If your team is ever forced to charter a crappy plane, one so crappy the pilot recommends wearing parachutes, don't let Roy pack yours.

The first half saw the Tigers jump out with the same sense of urgency a cockroach must feel when the kitchen light is turned on in the middle of the night and he's in the middle of the floor. Clemson was driving, dishing, swishing, rebounding and doing much of what Duke seemed to be doing very little of at all - moving. Duke's rather lethargic play (were they even interested in their own game?) to start the game infuriated Coach K who was compelled to pull all five starters and replace them with five off the bench. Messege sent.

After the Tigers, taking further advantage of the Blue Devil's bench being on the floor, roared (pun intended) out to double digit lead, Duke responded. There would be no ASS-DOWN of Duke on the road like there was of unc the day before. The Blue Devils played possessed (pun intended), and took a lead to halftime. I can't remember exactly what the score was, or the lead amount, but think it was something like six? You see, by then my body was reacting rather quickly to a muscle relaxer I had taken a bit earlier. I was sore, was out of Tylenol, and only had some old muscle relaxers. I really don't like those things. They make me too sleepy, and did again, but I was a hurtin'! Anyway, for those of you in Section 21, this explains my sudden drop off, which may have been welcomed (no comments please). Okay, back to the game.

For me, EarlJam, the first seven minutes of the second half could best be described as: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I'm not saying it was boring. I'm saying I was asleep. Very asleep. If Duke basketball is on, and I'm asleep, well, I must be VERY asleep.

Anyway, I woke up with 13:something left on the clock, and Duke still up 6 or so points. For the rest of the half, they seemed to go back and forth between 4 - 10 up, depending on what minute it was. To me, in my foggy haze (hadn't had a drop, I swear), it seemed like Duke was in control most of the way. I do remember Mason at one point was 5-5 from the line. I said to myself, "Wow, Mason! Yes!" Also, I remember that dude for Clemson named Tanner and thought how funny that was because he was cocaine white and had damn near white hair. Pretty much an albino..........named Tanner. Ha Ha. Hee. I posted about it on Section 21 but was late to the punch. Busted sleeping. Dang.

And Booker, wow. How long has HE been there? Didn't he used to guard Shane Battier? Anyway, Clemson drew close but couldn't catch the Duke. Credit Coach K's "pull the starters and insert the bench" (1992 anyone? He did the same thing at LittleJohn then also), strategy for securing a win on a night where we were on our way to suffering carolina's fate the day before.

On an night where both EarlJam and the Duke starters were caught napping, the good news is both he and them were awake to witness a happy outcome when the buzzer sounded.

I'm EarlJam and I approve of this post.

btw, THANKS so much for these.

Helps me get a sense w/o having to head OY.

Can't watch the games for a number of reasons.

Oh and I LOVE my nook, and my father in law can't figure out his kindle. Go figure.

Thanks BB! Again, I write these on purpose in the style of something more conversational. Sort of like a "by the water cooler" talk. If I don't remember a stat, I'll guess it. My goal is to more or less capture the feel of what happened, not so much to give a professional report on it.

It's a cross between reporting and Op-Ed.

I put my own slant, opinions, and experiences in it knowing that's not how it would appear in the paper. Anyway, I really appreciate the "Thanks."

As for the NOOK, glad you are enjoying it! If you ever have a question, just ask! And tell your father-in-law to ditch the Kindle and come to the B&N side!

Cheers,

-EarlJam

I'll never forget the time when some people stopped in where I was working at the time, Trader's Chevrolet in Greensboro, and wanted to ask directions to the "Col-os'-shum". :))

Another fine recounting of events, EJ.

WAKE UP! :D
