Who were your FIRST favorite Duke players?
And I don't mean, the first ones you remember you liked. I'm talking the first, "He ROCKS" type of guy.
For me, EarlJam, it was Mike Giminski and Dan Meagher.................followed by Mark Alarie (the last #32 before Laettner (I think)).
Those three. My first Duke loves. And I tried to incorporate a little of all of them (especially Meagher and Alarie) into my own bad ass hoops game on the court.

All time it's still Battier, but I can't think of any one who rocked my world bigger or earlier than Christian. When they put together the montage for him at the end of the year to Natalie and Nat Cole singing "Unforgettable" that finished me off. Of course, way, way back my daughters and I all had mad crushes on Bob Bender. But, I was to old and they were too young. I told him that once and he replied "That's the story of my life."

You mean, like ROCK STAR crushes?
My first favorites would have to be the 1978 team, led by Spanarkel (got his autograph), Gminski (drank my first on-campus beer with him in August 1980), Banks, Dennard and Bender (actually worked for him when he was one of K's assistant coaches). Banks and Dennard are my FB and real life friends today.
I love all of them!

Some will say this is a broken record..... Art Heyman and Jeff Mullins if you mean basketball players and Tee Moorman II if you mean football players.

Our first year attending basketball was '67. Mike Lewis was the man. My most favorite BB player of all times is still Shane. Not only a great Duke BB player but a great person.

Jack Marin and Bob Verga.
Mainly Verga. Not just for his shooting touch but also his ball handling.
I was mesmerized by watching his hair bounce up and down in time with the ball.

If I remember correctly, Marty Nessley was "Marty doesn't foul". Please correct me if Marty Clark also had that title.DevilAlumna wrote:BOB-BY! HUR-LEY! (Clap-clap, clap-clap-clap!)

I think the fans also yelled it for Marty Clark a few years later.
Both are wonderful gentlemen and my friends.

Thanks Cathy. And yes, they are wonderful gentleman. I've seen Marty N in the ortho clinic at Duke more than once. I always enjoy talking to him. We saw Marty C in Chicago will attending a game. Great guy.CathyCA wrote:We yelled it for Marty Nessley.Very Duke Blue wrote:[quote=

Hello? It was at the Stanford game. Who do you think entertained him while everyone else was falling all over Christian Laettner? None other than VDB, my mom and I! Trajan and Battier. I liked Jason Williams a lot, too.
I wasn't really around for Hurley, but I have a feeling he would have been one of the favorites as well.
