Friday Poll! Airplane Preferred Seating.
If sitting in coach, do you prefer the Window or the Aisle?

Re: Friday Poll! Airplane Preferred Seating.
Window, preferably at the bulkhead where there is extra leg room. I like the window because
A) I can put my GPS on the window and watch it as we fly over the countryside and monitor our air speed and altitude
B) I can watch the scenery (if it's not cloudy) as we go by
C) If we make an "slow, gradual, unscheduled turn in direction", and stay headed that way, I'll know "something is up" - see A.

I am shocked, simply shocked that COCKpit is not an option here.

Do they even let passengers sit on the cockpit anymore? I visited the cockpit of a 747 in mid-flight in 1994 on the way to London. Super cool. Not sure they'd allow that now.devildeac wrote:I am shocked, simply shocked that COCKpit is not an option here.

I'd wager not. That door is now locked/barred/secured at some point before take-off. Just surprised you did not include that as an option ;) . Just sayin'...EarlJam wrote:Do they even let passengers sit on the cockpit anymore? I visited the cockpit of a 747 in mid-flight in 1994 on the way to London. Super cool. Re: Friday Poll! Airplane Preferred Seating.
Why isn't first class an option? ;)
If I'm in coach, I prefer a window seat with an empty seat between me and the other passenger. I prefer to sit where I can curl my legs up in the seat beside me. Also, the window must not be located over the wing or just behind it. I'll gladly sit at the back of the plane to get a window seat.
In October, my friend Sara and I traded off on the window seat to and from Las Vegas. We flew Southwest (no assigned seating, no first class), so our big challenge was to figure out which side of the plane would fly by the Grand Canyon. As you can see from my FB pictures, we guessed correctly!

Window seat. When I get on an airplane, I shut my eyes and sleep and don't want to be disturbed.

I'm with Ozzie and Cathy on this one. Window bulkhead if I can get it, otherwise someplace where I can see and navigate from the back seat in case they get lost... Unless you're in first class, you're not getting out of the plane any faster from the aisle than the window..

Normally, I'd take the aisle. That added nanometer of leg room is what I need.
HOWEVER... the more important consideration is to be behind an open seat. I NEED legroom.
First choice: Bulkhead.
I will NEVER choose the middle seat.

You mean because it's easier to stand and wait faster.Very Duke Blue wrote:I like the ailse seat because it's easier to get off.
It always amazes me how everyone stands in unison, especially those in the back. I don't complain though, it's the first time on the whole flight that I finally get to enjoy both arm rests.

After further consideration, my first choice would be sitting next to the guys who speak jive. If that isn't an option, anywhere is fine except next to Ted Striker, that guy will bore you to death.

Yes, so I can stand up. The few minutes I save getting off the plane is most helpful when the layovers are short and I need to get to another terminal.CameronBornAndBred wrote:You mean because it's easier to stand and wait faster.Very Duke Blue wrote:I like the ailse seat because it's easier to get off.

I'm with Cathy. First class is my choice.

Oh, I just thought of another answer!
I'd like to sit next to the black box those things always survive the crashes.

Aisle...bulkhead if I can, or behind the emergency exit row on some planes (the seats in the exit row don't recline on all aircraft). Although I am not that tall (5'6") I'm long legged (my inseam is longer than my 6 ft husband's) and need the leg room.

Why don't they call black boxes "orange boxes?" When investigating plane crashes, you'd think you'd want to minimize confusion as much as possible.CathyCA wrote:Oh, I just thought of another answer!
