Never name a dog Lucky!

Post by Ima Facultiwyfe » November 6th, 2011, 8:40 pm

It's been a long, tough day. Tonight our beautiful Labrador is tucked in at Triangle Animal Hospital under sedation and will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair the right rear ACL he broke today. This is the UNluckiest dog I've ever known. He's had Lyme disease, major abdominal surgery to remove a hard rubber dog toy he managed to ingest but not digest, and I've backed over him in the garage! Now this. Through it all, he's remained beautiful. He's the same age as me in dog years. Wish I were as pretty!

Ima, my heart is with you and the OP. Believe me, I know what you are feeling. I know you remember when we lost our beautiful lab, Jack, in Nov. 2008. I am praying and vibing that your Lucky is going to come through this surgery. I'm praying he will remain your "Lucky" and not go to Dogie Heaven from an injury or surgery. :O3 :ymhug:           :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Lucky is lucky to have you! I'll be thinking of all of you tomorrow and hoping that Lucky's surgery goes well.

HUGS!

Healing prayers and vibes for Lucky.

Ima, I must disagree with you. You are beautiful. I thought of you today while at a workshop. They talked about sharing 3 gratitudes a day and it made me remember the gratitude journal that you suggested we all should keep.

WOW! What FUN! What a great shot of Jester! (Is there a painting there, CB?) How old is Jester? It's been a while since Lucky has had that much energy!

Jester is 5 this coming Saturday - the bigger hunt tests have prof. photographers on hand sitting in blinds, waiting for 'the shot' so they can sell them to us silly dog owners at a handsome price. The photographer that got that shot took probably 30 of Jester on that retreive ...and got that one terrific picture.

Great picture indeed! Alas, CB&B only paints from his own pictures to avoid copyright issues.

For what it is worth, a torn ACL is a VERY common agility dog injury. They usually do very well after surgery (better than humans!) I hope Lucky has an easy time of it..and is back to being is hunk o labby love self in no time.

Keep us posted on his progress doggie vibes...

Thanks for the vibes, dear ones. And thanks for the encouraging words, Windsor. It means a lot coming from you. I spoke with the surgeon earlier today. She had two emergencies on her plate which bumped Lucky's until tomorrow. But we are willing to wait because she's soooo good at what she does. He's being kept on joy juice and is pretty comfortable. He's a pretty laid back guy and caregivers fall in love with him so we feel he's safe and probably being spoiled rotten.

He's having a TPLO, which you are no doubt familiar with. The surgeon warns that it is common for the other ACL to go in the future, so we'll probably be old hands at this before we're through.... and even more broke.

The OP is the one I really worry about. What a mess he is when Lucky hurts!

I am very familiar with TPLO. It is the procedure of choice and I have seen it have very good outcomes in probably a dozen dogs. Several of them returned to full out agility competition. I am not sure I would return to competition if one of my dogs had that surgery... but Lucky should return to a full active life very quickly. As someone who has sat up many nights with sick dogs I know how the OP feels. You wish they could understand you so you could explain what was going on to them. They give you those big sad eyes and you know they hurt and it breaks your heart. More vibes to Lucky, and an extra dose for you and the OP ...I am thinking it is harder on you than on Lucky!
