Rock of Ages, the Quiz

Post by devildeac » November 1st, 2011, 10:00 pm

We saw Rock of Ages Sunday night and here are the names of the songs performed during the show. Your job, should you decide to accept it, is to name the artist who originally performed the song in the 1980s. You are allowed to look at the list of songs from the Original Broadway cast recording (it's on Amazon.com) but Google/Youtube/Wiki searches are not allowed. Each cut on the CD is about 30 seconds and definitely sounds different than the original version. There are 22 tracks but 28 songs so you may only hear the 1st part of the "medley" and may not hear the 2nd or 3rd song listed for that cut. Good luck! Hope you have some fun with it. We did and my office staff did, too, when I gave them the quiz.

1. Just Like Paradise
2. Nothin' But a Good Time
3. Sister Christian
4. We Built This City
5. Too Much Time on My Hands
6. I Wanna Rock
7. We're Not Gonna Take It
8. Heaven
9. More Than Words
10. To Be with You
11. Waiting for a Girl Like You
12. Wanted: Dead of Alive
13. I Want to Know What Love Is
14. Cum on Feel the Noize
15. Harden My Heart
16. Shadows of the Night
17. Here I Go Again
18. The Final Countdown
19. Any Way You Want It
20. High Enough
21. I Hate Myself for Lovin' You
22. Heat of the Moment
23. Hit Me with Your Best Shot
24. Can't Fight This Feeling
25. Every Rose Has Its Thorn
26. Oh, Sherrie
27. The Search Is Over
28. Don't Stop Believin'

(Bonus song/question-for an extra bottle of Yuengling: Girls, Girls, Girls)
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

:9f:
That's quite impressive. Did you know those before the show or learn them from your research? My office staff got 11/28, mostly from my 40 yo office manager. Another office manager (age 32) who took the quiz got 14/28. I got 8/28 :ymblushing: . I'm not sure that is good or bad as I am kinda old for 80s rock and roll.

I'll let a few other folks try to answer and then provide all the correct answers tomorrow or, more likely, Thursday night. After all, there is a MBB game tomorrow night :D .

I had most of those songs on my iPod to begin with. I decided to rearrange them into a playlist that we could listen to on our way home from the show on Thursday night. I *think* that arranging them into a playlist last week gave me an advantage in knowing who the original artists were.

I love those songs! I love Rock of Ages!

This won't be any challenge at all as I am a huge '80s rock fan and have every one of these songs on my computers. I have also seen eight or nine of these bands in concert. If you were to put on a classic rock radio station I could name every song they played within ten seconds of the song starting and I can also play a handful of the songs on this list on guitar.

Not too high on 80s rock, but I have a real appreciation for the talents of Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt. Check out his solo project from 15 years ago, Schizophonic.

The '60s I am OK on for the most part and the '70s I would do as well as I did with the '80s so long as you weren't throwing disco or anything like that in there. If it was strictly classic rock from the '70s I would do just as well as I did with the '80s stuff.

Disco is not rock. Disco sucks. One of the best events I ever remember was some MLB game in the 70s or 80s I think (Detroit?) where they had a free (?) rock concert after a game and everyone brought a disco record to burn before/during/after the show. The details are pretty fuzzy but remember =)) when I read about it. I should have figured you'd do well with as much as you have talked about your love for guitars/music here.

It was in Chicago, and was between games of a doubleheader, in 1979. The promotion was called "Disco Demolition Night." The White Sox forfeited the second game (to Detroit) after things got crazy.

My CRS is not as bad as I thought. Had the right decade, sport, event, part of the country and named one of the teams involved correctly :ymblushing: .

I've thought since I first heard about it that I would love it but I would need to find someone to go with me.
