Duke Vs. The Turkeys

Post by CameronBornAndBred » October 24th, 2011, 9:13 am

:-ss :-ss

We usually play VT well (except last year in their house, that was ugly), so it's never a given that we will be blown out. Who knows, maybe this year we do something special. Here's a look ahead from VT's point of view.

The opening odds have Duke as a 14 point underdog. A win over Virginia Tech would turn the season around. Our backs are against the wall so the team must respond. Solid fan support is an important element.

I saw very little of the Wake game due to my FotB responsibilities so I'll really be anxious to see the injury report, especially about Harding, Moore and Renfree.

VT has lost their leading tackler for the rest of the season.

Their last three regular season losses have been at home. Clemson this year and James Madison and Boise St last year. You have to go back to 2009 for a road loss when they lost to Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Perhaps they will be overconfident on Saturday or looking ahead to Georgia Tech.

Must not be talking to the folks in Vegas. They are now 15.5 point favorites.

Stressing the importance of putting points up early...or at the very least not letting them score either.
In five of Duke's seven games, the Blue Devils have been behind at the half. They've been tied once and ahead once - accounting for two of Duke's three wins.

In the other five games, two of which were eventually decided by a total of three points, Duke has been outscored 90-34 in the first half and been down by a touchdown or more at halftime in three of them.

We need it to be a shootout for us to have a chance to win. I'm hoping for a 2009 NC State type game where it was 21-21 at halftime and then Duke exploded for 28 second half points to win 49-28. This needs to be a game where the offense scores a lot of points and pressures VT to keep responding.

We are 18.5 point 'dogs. This one could get really ugly early.

I think you might need a cup of Joe. Or three. :D

You might need Jose, Jim and Jack for the tailgate and during the game! The 3 amigos can ease the pain.
