Thad Lewis cut by the Rams, signed by Cleveland

Post by ArkieDukie » September 4th, 2011, 9:08 pm

ESPN doesn't mention him specifically in their breakdown, but it's definitely a point of discussion in the Comments section: http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/ ... 2#comments. Lewis out-performed the guy that was kept as the second string quarterback (A.J. Feeley), based on everything I heard. Local fans are mighty confused about the decision to cut him loose.

I have read in a couple of places (including his Wikipedia page) that Thad was signed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns. I can't find a link confirming this, though.

Speculation is that the Rams expected to sign him to the practice squad. Guess they messed up, assuming he was signed by Cleveland. Best of luck to Thad!

Thad is the one they mention as the "most intriguing" sign, after his great preseason. These guys speculate Thad will be groomed to be Colt McCoy's backup.

Thanks for the link. The Rams were not going to keep 3 QB's, and speculation was heavy that they would go with Thad as the #2, but it looks like they went with experience over performance. Very cool to still see him signed though!

Thanks for the link, lawgrad! I didn't realize that the current Browns head coach was OC for the Rams last year. That explains why they signed Thad, think.

It's really interesting to read comments on the local TV stations' websites and also to speak with local fans. Thad had a better preseason than the guy that was kept. At least one of the receivers that was cut had a good preseason as well. In fact, the Rams chose to keep 2 receivers who are coming off injuries (one went to injured reserve, I believe). Needless to say, people are a bit confused.

It MIGHT be time for the Rams to regret their decision: http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/276188 ... eaves-game

Sam Bradford is out of the game tomorrow vs the Cowboys with a high ankle sprain. AJ Feeley will be starting. Wonder how stupid the Rams are feeling for cutting Lewis.
