RIP: Danny Eyre

Post by Miles » June 28th, 2011, 2:52 pm

None of you knew Danny Eyre, but I want to share his story with you and grieve a little.

Danny, or 'Neighbor Danny' as we called him, was my friend and my next door neighbor in San Marcos. His sister, captured him perfectly when she wrote wrote:
He loved to an lived life on his own terms – artistically with passion, sincerity, brilliance and humility. From his very earliest days, Dan loved to tinker with cars regardless of whether they were plastic buckets on wheels or a custom built go-cart. His mechanical and design abilities grew to restoring and modifying the engines and bodies of cars and motorcycles and then testing them – petal to the metal. The world, as viewed by Dan, is magical and full of beauty. He used his original, artistic intelligence and imagination in his everyday life while loyally contributing to various design companies, including: Vector, Oakley, and Red Digital.
In the seven years of our friendship, Danny never said the word 'no' to me. He was always willing, even if not able, to lend a helping hand. He gave everything, and took nothing. I saw Danny when I flew out to California a few months ago and when he answered the door and saw me, his face lit up like a kid''s face on Christmas morning. He was genuinely excited to see me, and he always made you feel that way - special.

Danny was in his early fifties. He died Saturday after being in a coma induced by anaphylactic shock due to a severe allergic reaction to three bee stings. He is survived by his father, brother, sisters, and a lot of grieving friends.

I hope he can finally find all the parts he needs to finish his Lotus. Miss you buddy.

Thank you for sharing your story of your Neighbor, Danny. This reminds me of years gone by. Where your neighbors lived there for along time. And you had great relationships with them. In today's world, some people don't even know their neighbors. People move so much, these days. Growing up, we had a neighborhood club, and had Pot Lucks, Birthday parties, holiday gatherings, etc. If someone was sick in the family, the neighbors would bring food in each day for however long it took. Or if you were on vacation, the neighbors would bring your newspaper in, check the mailbox, feed the pets, and even mow the law, if it was Summertime. Where did those Days go? It was a wonderful neighborhood with wonderful neighbors.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your Neighbor was your good friend. You will grieve for your neighbor, Danny. There should be more people like him.

Thank you for reminding us to be good neighbors and always lend a helping hand.
