Maccabi Tel Aviv. I had to look; I couldn't remember.Lavabe wrote:Thanks for the update!lawgrad91 wrote:He just signed to play in Israel.Lavabe wrote:Any hope for Jon Scheyer making a team as a free agent in the NBA?
He will be very successful there, and doesn't count against their foreign player quota.

The NBA DRAFT is a job Search (kinda, sort of). The Job Search for Kyrie, Kyle and Nolan is complete for now. Just wait and see if Kyle or Nolan are traded somewhere.
These young men are living their DREAMS tonight. Made the NBA! Just a handful of young men do that. And this year, too many International kids have taken spots from out US College kids.

I disagree with this statement. The NBA Draft is about GMs acquiring the best talent available for their team. Why shouldn't they draft international kids?DevilWearsPrada2.0 wrote:And this year, too many International kids have taken spots from out US College kids.

WELL BOB...... even the ESPN guys are saying the same thing. They dont even know some of these international kids. And some of the kids, wont ever make it to the USA, either.Bob Green wrote:I disagree with this statement. The NBA Draft is about GMs acquiring the best talent available for their team. Matt Howard from Butler has not been picked. Neither has Ben Hansborough of Notre Dame. And Kyle went in the 2nd round.
ASK JAY BILAS, and his panel.... because they are saying, exactly what I am thinking.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft
The 2011 Nba draft is over.
And Duke had 3 picks! So did Texas and Kentucky.
Kyrie Irving is a Cleveland Cavalier. Nolan in Portland and Kyle in Detroit.
And Corey Magette was traded to Charlotte.
And Kemba Walker (uconn) 9th pick to Charlotte. So perhaps, G will get some help for the Bobcats.

Jay Bilas is primarily a TV announcer for college games here in the US, which doesn't make him not qualified to comment. It does highlight that he might have a potential bias. And while they don't know some of the international kids, I'm fairly certain someone that might have to make a multi-million dollar investment in them will likely have done some homework.DevilWearsPrada2.0 wrote:WELL BOB...... even the ESPN guys are saying the same thing. Re: 2011 NBA Draft
And in a few days, there maybe a NBA lockout.
I only watch bits and pieces and mainly highlights on ESPN of NBA games, during the college basketball season. I try to follow our Dukie boys and their careers in the NBA, but that list is growing (which is great). And watch the playoffs.
The best to Nolan, Kyle and Kyrie in their new NBA careers.
*Note, Shelvin Mack, from Butler was drafted, but Matt Howard was not. Coach Brad Stevens has back to back years with being in the Final 4, the championship game, and drafting players into the NBA. I really like Coach Stevens and his program. Reminds me of Coach K in his early years.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft
Perhaps I'd agree with you more if the international folks would actually declare and enter the NBA to play the year that they are drafted. How many of those internationals who were drafted will actually enter the NBA, and when will they join? The Euros and Africans who made it in the first round can be drafted, and not play for a while, thereby taking spots away from those who have had to declare and, in some cases, sacrifice their college play for the draft. For example, Rubio gets drafted, gets to play (and get paid) elsewhere for a couple of years or so, and THEN decides to play in the NBA.Bob Green wrote:I disagree with this statement. Can US-born players get drafted, defer, develop (and be paid), and then decide to play in the NBA? ;) The whole Rubio situation has me now totally confused, or is Rubio the exception?

Re: 2011 NBA Draft
That's a good point, Lavabe. If the NBA is going to play that game, why not draft players while they're in college and let them keep playing for their collegiate team? Same effect, right?Lavabe wrote:Perhaps I'd agree with you more if the international folks would actually declare and enter the NBA to play the year that they are drafted. Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

Re: 2011 NBA Draft
The difference, however, is that most of those drafted from elsewhere are under contracts with the teams they are playing for. In other words, they are professionals. Doing what you suggests turns college basketball in to the minor leagues for the NBA.
