DukeRah update
Tilly has emailed a request that I give daily updates even if there is no change. So, to fill you in, we're still making progress. Since Thursday, we've gone from the OR to intensive care,to step down, and finally today she's in her own room. Our only problem as been the maintenance of functioning IVs. She's been stuck a total of 30 times! That must be a record. She keeps blowing them. This has always been a problem. Looks like a PICC is in her future.
But, so far there has been no sign of serious trouble. We're a long way from home plate, but we have gotten to first base and are still in the game.
At each juncture as we move through the process here at Memorial, we think to ourselves, "OK, so far they've been amazingly good. But, NOW we'll see what they do at this stage. They can't keep this up." But, our experience just keeps on being unreal. It's SO CLEAN. Every single person you have contact with is eager to be helpful. NObody passes you without speaking and wishing you well. We've not had a mediocre nurse yet. None with accents we can't understand. Nobody with an "attitude"'.
Sarah is still in a whole lot of pain, barely kept under control with an epidural and her little push button. And tomorrow is the day she has to get out of bed. So that will tell us a lot. We're just hoping against hope that the big ol' buggaboo of infection doesn't rear it's ugly head. Barring that, I think the future looks bright.
Give major shout outs to all the CTN vibrators out there. If we could bottle this group's brand of love and care, we could make a fortune.
Thanks everybody. Love ya.
Love, Ima

Re: DukeRah update
Give her another day and a possible shower. She's eager to get her "Tilly Fix" but, it's a little soon. Maybe we can work out a way I can drop you there and pick you up and we can do lunch or something real soon.TillyGalore wrote:Thank you for the update, Ima. Her phone number is 966-1876 if you want to try and give her a shout out.

Ima, thank you for the updates.
Prayers and vibes continue for DukeRah, and all of you, and nasty kicks to any lurking infections. (Do infections have shins?)

It's great to hear that things are going well overall, Ima! Vibes for continued improvement, and shin kicks to the pain! Also sending therapeutic anti-microbial shin kicks. Go elsewhere, bugs!

Re: DukeRah update
We're going through a rough patch right now. The pain has worn us both down a bit. It's impossible to get on top of it and they've given her all the meds they can. They had to put in a central line this morning, something we didn't want to do since we're so, so scared of infection. We hope it doesn't have to be in there long. Aside from that, we continue to move along. Hoping for a positive night and some good rest so there will be energy to tackle tomorrow.
Love, Ima
PS We've discovered the area where DUMC excels over Memorial. It's in the availability of radiology. They only work four days a week over here. We've had an order in for PICC line since Thursday night but they don't come to work until Monday. THEN you have to wait your turn in a very long line. Hence, the central line necessity this morning. Definitely not a good thing. At Duke they were johnny-on-the-spot.

Re: DukeRah update
Ima, I'm sorry to hear that DukeRah is having a rough time with the pain. Sending to you, for DukeRah, and shin-kicks to the pain. Also, as before, I'm sending prophylactic shin-kicks to the microbes to keep 'em away.
