C-Well....Special Asst on Womens BBall Staff

Post by DevilWearsPrada2.0 » May 11th, 2011, 4:25 pm

I just read the new additions to the Girls Basketball Staff. Chris Carrawell, is now a Special Assistant on the Womens Basketball Staff!

Read GoDuke.com

On Sunday, Jeff Capel is the new Asst coach on the Mens Team, and then Nate James, goes from Asst Coach, to a Special Assistant.

And 3 days later, C-Well, is off the Mens Team, and a Special Asst on the Womens Team!

WOW!

How do you SPIN this?

I like it. And remember, each player had to accept the job; they very well could have said "no, thanks" and thrown their hats into another ring. Robert Brickey worked with the women's team after he was fired at Shaw. The opening was there this time due to Samantha Williams taking a job yesterday with Louisville. (Her home town.)

If you are interested in coaching, and you want to stay with an elite program, it makes sense for C-Well. Just because it's the women doesn't make it less of a job, at least not in my eyes.

P.S. The women are going to be insanely talented next year. They should make a deep tourney run. (If they can hit a layup.)

I read a note OY in the Capel thread which stated that the NCAA has changed the rules regarding the number of staff members and that Coach K was trying to find an assistant coaching position somewhere for C-well. If that's the case, this move has nothing to do with C-well and everything to do with NCAA rules.

The Asst coaching job on the girls team, went to someone else. Chris Carrawell, is a Special Asst, like Nate James.

I know the Girls will be better next season. OR I hope so. They were like the Cardiac Pack Girls this past season! Played scrappy, but got the W's! WINNING!

He is still a coach. Candice Jackson was hired to Samantha Williams' spot.

Don't forget that Chris Collins was an assistant coach in the WNBA early in his coaching career.

They also had a quote from C-Well OY that he's been working with the women's team for a few years now and is really excited about this. Says he watched them when he was at Duke as a student, and is looking forward to working with them full time. I'm starting to wonder if he didn't volunteer for this move to make room for Jeff. Who knows, maybe he's placing himself to move up the ranks to take over for Coach P when the time comes, since chances are there would be a lot more competition for K's spot in a few years and C-Well wouldn't have a chance to move up much by then. Wouldn't it be weird if in 15 years somebody like Wojo or Collins were the men's coach and C-Well were the women's?

Hey, if nothing else, all things being equal, the ladies are a lot easier on the eye.

If they are missing lay-ups repeatedly with a FG% <30, three-chucking at a FG% of 10-15 and turning the ball over 20+/game, they are not too easy on my eyes.

Robert Brickey was on the staff of Womens BBall, after his Shaw Univ Head Coaching gig. He then went to NC Central as an asst coach; but I dont know if he is still there.

I have been attending the Girls games for 8 years, and several of the Mens Basketball team attend the games on a regular basis. This past season: Mason Plumlee (obviously, Jas b/f), Nolan, Seth, Kyrie, Tyler, Josh, Casey (Haley's brother) and Todd were seen at many of the home games, when the boys werent traveling.

Good to have men on the Womens Basketball Staff, also. Al could use a little company. And hopefully, Chris will work with the Bigs on the Girls team, and make them stronger and more confident in the paint. I read where Allison is staying in Durham over the summer! C-Well working out and running drills with Ali and the girls is definitely a good added plus for the Womens team!

Work on lay ups, and free throws! The girls played so many games so ugly last season. But they got the W's. One of the best wins, was the rainy Sunday for the ACC tourney championship vs UNC, the day after our boys lost in Chapel Hill (reg season). Our ladies played with confidence and went ahead during the last 5 minutes of play and never looked back. A great win, after the mens game on Saturday night!!!

And having Carrawell on the Womens Staff, will give a bounce or boost to the attendance for the girls games.(I hope so, anyway). Happy for CWell, that he has an opportunity to build his resume! Always, enjoyed having him as a keynote speaker at Blue Devil Club. Very friendly and engaging in the Q&A session. And a great sense of humor!
